When will class assignments be out?

It’s ridiculous to expect anyone to look at 6 am when many have their orientations (which include walking their schedule) that day at 8 am. It should be given out the day before orientation.

You can’t look at your phone 2 hours before orientation to see the teacher is Mr Brown ?

Yes of course. There’s one less class for that grade level though, so sizes are just bigger.

We got an email today confirming class assignment letters will be emailed by COB Monday. So a week before school starts. This is in line with past years experiences.

In an email sent this week, our school said they’ll email teacher assignments by close of business Wednesday 8/14. Our open house is 8/15. This is typical for us.

Yes, it says VACANT next teacher name, but the kids are still placed in a class.

Oh man that would really suck. Has anyone ever had this happen and did you get a teacher eventually? How long ?

Teacher here. My team was in the scenario this past school year. The kids had a long term sub and then a teacher trainee.

What do they learn while the sub is there and how long did the teacher trainee last? Wondering what the success rate is for the trainees.

Typically at my school it is a long term sub unless they can spread the kids into other grade level rooms.

I moved to the area many years ago and replaced a long-term sub at the end of January. She was a mom that had subbed for 10+ years and I was a certified teacher. The classes were departmentalized so I had about 80 6th graders. All but 2-4 students passed the SOL. This was at a Title 1 school. It tough but not always a complete loss.

Glad to hear that that worked out. I don't think many people move to this area anymore because it is very expensive to live here especially on a teacher salary. Probably most new teachers are from the area and can live at home.

Luckily the sub was a retired teacher. Honestly the kids would have learned more as the trainee was a mess. They didn’t leave and they are continuing to teach at a different school.

I'm guessing the trainee was thrown to the wolves. That's a rough spot to be in.
