competitive diving for kids

We live in an area with lots of pools with smaller pools/swim teams, and those dive teams around us are always reaching out to let us know that they're looking for kids. This includes a team in Division 2.

From all I hear, dive teams are always looking for kids. I'd guess that pretty much any team would be happy to hear from families interested in joining, but teams in divisions 3 and below would likely be even happier. If you go to NVSL's dive site and check out the teams, you should be able to find one relatively near you.

In high school, yes. And then I'd had enough. It was fun being part of the swim team, but I was ready to move on by the time I went to college.

Thanks. I’ll have a look at the standings. When I was in NVSL years ago I think I remember diving and swimming teams being in different divisions for our pool. I assume that’s still the case? Any thoughts on assessing the coaching from the outside? Technically instruction but as much the atmosphere/fun.

That is the case - NVSL swim and dive teams are separate entities and are placed in divisions without regard to which division the other team is in. While there are 17 divisions in NVSL swim, there are only seven in dive, so they have to keep them separate if only out of necessity to keep the number of teams in each division the same.

Unfortunately I can't help on your question about assessing the coaches/teams, as I'm involved on the swim side and not the dive side. Good luck!

Article IV – Competitor Eligibility
An athlete whose Family has a bona fide membership at an NVSL pool, established by the pool
bylaws or other governing documents, shall be eligible to compete for that pool in League activities.
A. An athlete whose Family has more than one bona fide NVSL pool membership is eligible
to swim for only one pool and to dive for only one pool during each season. League Rules
Committees may, for good cause shown, grant an exemption to permit a family to swim or
dive at a second pool during the current season.
B. An athlete with individual swimming privileges at an NVSL pool, rather than Family
swimming privileges, shall not be eligible to compete for that pool in League activities.

C. An athlete whose Family membership at an NVSL pool does not provide dive competition
may dive for an NVSL pool that provides such competition pursuant to its pool rules for dive

I was looking around Alexandria. Outside the beltway. But from other comments it sounds like it may require an NVSL membership somewhere else, which we don’t have. Another parent mentioned that there’s a club that uses Franconia rec center, so we may look into that.

If your NVSL pool does not have a dive team, you can join as a Dive-Only member at another NVSL pool just for the purposes of being on the Dive Team. With this type of membership, the diver just goes to dive practices and meets. They don’t have the right to use the facility otherwise. The cost of course is less than a full membership.
