“toddler tummy” not going away

This. My son had that distended belly until he was 6 or 7.

I don't like to talk about my kids body, but I remember being worried about this when she was 6 and clearly no longer a toddler as well. My kid had this through K and even 1st if I am remembering correctly. Completely gone by 4th now and shes one of the thinnest/most athletic looking in her class.

Yes. It's most likely postural.

My kid never had a toddler belly. Most girls are just very skinny.

Needs to do 100 situps every morning before breakfast and every evening before bed

Heck, I'm 46 and apparently have "toddler tummy."

A distended belly can be a medical issue so I assume that is why OP is asking. Ask the pediatrician to take a closer look at the next appointment. Any chance your kid has a mild sunken chest that went undiagnosed? This can cause the stomach to appear protruded.

First of all, you are some of the most judgmental parents that I’ve ever seen!
For a first time mom, it can be very concerning seeing kids with flat stomachs, and your kid is walking around with a toddler belly. These forums are to ask questions and not to be judged by second and third time moms who know that Toddler bellies are OK at age 4 and 5.

OP… From what I am understanding, it is OK for a toddler or a child at age 4 or5 to have a toddler belly but just make sure that there are no other issues along with it.

This. Wow.

This can be a sign of hypotonia. Ask about muscle tone at her next appointment.

I had that body at 8 years old. I looked like one of those starving children with stick arms and legs and the distended belly. I think I filled out by 4th grade

Yeah I have a kid like this and I definitely plan to bring it up to his doctor (privately through the message system and not in front of DS) before his physical this fall just to double check there aren't any medical concerns and it's purely postural/potential weak core issues/just his body (which I've read is the most likely scenarios). I've noticed it but of course don't want to give my child issues around his body image, BUT it's summer and the other kids have noticed as well and he's gotten comments from those kids. As another poster has said, he almost looks like a kid with mild kwashikor if that was a thing! He eats pretty normal and is super active and strong so I know he's healthy. Assuming there's no medical reason, my guess is he'll either grow out of it if it's something about his musculature. Otherwise it could also just be his body--bodies are all different.

I'm going to assume OP's concern here was about a possible underlying medical issue. But also, OP said this kid is her THIRD.

‘CMon though.. DCUM parents run to their specialized paediatricians for the slightest evidence of even something as innocuous as a mosquito bite. If OP was actually stored about an actual health issue, she would have been at the doctor months ago.

This was a test to make sure there’s OTHER kids that don’t look like that they have the very weirdly perceived, but completely normal, configuration of a human shape that is cylindrical.

Honestly, the fat phobia on this board has no bounds. Including judging little kids.

Again, if it was medical, or suspected so, OP would have already been to the doctor. Twice.
