Parking in DC alley

In the District, you call 911 for any 'first responder' matter, even if it is a non-emergency like this.

Please stop with the misinformation.

You are never wrong to call 911, the dispatcher just told me. 311 works during the day only but 911 is fine too since they forward non-emergency calls. The dispatcher kept asking me what was wrong. I said I was having a debate with a friend over 911 versus 311. He told me, Tell her you win.

And you win this thread! Seriously, I laughed out loud. Thanks for brightening my afternoon.

Yes I did because if I am misinformed I do not want to call 911 for a non-emergency plus I want to clarify the misinformation being posted here. I'm glad you appreciate the gesture!

Here is the official guidance on 311 and 911, which BTW oddly differs from the 911 operator's instructions:

We have the same problem with parking in the alley outside our window. This blocks access to other vehicles and causes loads of honking and shouting, which wakes DS up when he is taking a nap.

As well as calling 311 or 911 you can report a parking violation online, and they will send parking enforcement out. It can take a couple of hours for parking enforcement to get there though.

DH managed to talk to someone in parking enforcement who is arranging to have no parking signs made and put up in the alley. Will find out who he called and post again.

22.06 here. Call Connie Wheeler at the Department of Transportation.

17:24 It does NOT differ from what he told me.
Did you not read this?
If you're not sure which number to call, call 911.

But the link clearly says that you should report cars parked in alleys on 311. So now that you know that, you are no longer unsure of where to call.

Ummmm.....bright new idea for DCUMs finest: how about you talk to the motorcyle owner who is parking there? You know, direct dealing with your neighbor? The desire to involve the government in the most minute aspects of our lives = why we are so screwed up.
