Circumcision for 7 y/o DS. Anybody had to do this later than is ideal and have advice?

One of my sons had to be circumcized at 3. It was pretty bad, not going to lie, so I can only imagine it being worse at 7. But he should be old enough to understand why it has to be done so maybe that will help. The first week will be so hard, so distract however you can. It will heal quickly after that and he will be fine and you won't have to worry about it anymore. Good luck!

In my country of origin, it is common to circumcise boys when they are around that age (5-7).

We have multiple sons born in multiple countries.

Some were circumcised.

Another was not, because it was simply not available in the country where he was born. It was seen as barbarous.

All are older and happy now, and no issues. I don't feel any pressure to get them retroactively circumcised.... what the hell kind of conditions could cause that?

You could just Google this.

You’re a good mom. I dated a guy in college that had a medical condition where the foreskin would not retract and it was very painful for him. We didn’t have sex and I was honestly unsure how we even could. I had to look it up in a book in the library (pre internet), and then encouraged him to see a doctor but he wouldn’t. We broke up for other reasons and I assume the next girl he dated was more successful in getting him to see a doctor. Taking care of it at 7 is so much better than at 17 or 20!

I had a boyfriend from a part of Europe where you get circumcised at 18. Weird I know. He said it hurt like crazy but that sex was better after. He had had sex before 18.

Oh yeah. And his younger brother witnessed what he went through and opted not to do it because he didn’t want the pain.

This is made up. The sex would not be better unless he had an issue that was corrected.

A young relative of mine had to have his circumcision revised around age 9. It was a brutally painful recovery but just a few days. Don’t laugh but what helped the most (other than staying on top of the pain meds) was to buy those post partum ice packs. I believe they’re by Frieda baby? I’d have those on hand at home. His was out patient and the first few hours seemed ok, then the iv pain meds wore off and it was bad. I’d have the ice packs frozen and ready to go and keep alternating them to get through the first night

It’s what he said. I mentioned it around a psychologist and she said “he would have to convince himself of that to rationalize the pain he went through.” It’s also possible he got substantially better at sex after age 17.

Do you put anything on him when you change his diaper? Has he been complaining it hurts?

OP’s son is seven. It’s very unlikely he wears a diaper.

What part of Europe is this?

Healing will take a bit longer. Be patient while he heals. Best to do it in the summer, as this way he will heal before school starts. Best wishes.
