Is Nashville worth a trip if you aren’t into bar or music?

Anonymous
Maybe suggest some other places to your friend? I feel like women land on Nashville and Asheville for their girls trips just because everyone else is doing it. I don’t think it necessarily matters that you don’t like country music, but if you’re not into bars either, I don’t think it’s a logical choice at all. Especially when there are so many great places to go and life is short. Can you suggest any of these?
Chattanooga — totally underrated!
Savannah
Cape May or Nantucket if in summer
New Orleans
Atlanta
Quebec City
Bar Harbor
St.Michael’s
Charleston
Wilmington
St. Augustine
Miami

Agree with PP's list that includes beach options, although these places are harder to get to which is why Nashville attracts so many - convenient flights. Atlanta is a hellhole - not a good substitute but everywhere else is fun. Miami is a blast and would be a good meet-up point with lots of fun for a non-drinker if she likes to dance.

I have family in Nashville so I have to go sometimes, but it is not a place I’d voluntarily visit. It’s not pretty, traffic is bad, the country music does not appeal to me, and there are loud, drunk people everywhere. (I love New Orleans, though, and don’t mind some chaos, booze, and revelry. But Nashville’s version is not for me. It lacks soul or something.)

No. It is a pretty gross city.

I went ~5 years ago for a bachelorette weekend. It was fine. Not really my thing. The whole place seemed built for bridal party weekend shenanigans.

Former DMV'er who lives in Nashville. The city is MORE THAN BROADWAY! This is like saying New York City is just Times Square. Or people coming to DC and only going to the National Mall.

Check out Sylvan Park, 12 South, East Nashville (Fatherland Street Area), Warner Parks, etc. Depending on time of year the Full Moon Picking Parties in Percy Warner Park (Bluegrass under the moon) are amazing. Ann Patchett's bookstore is fantastic. NHL, MLS, and NFL games are big crowdpleasers, we have a great set of museums (music and non-music related).

If you come to Nashville and stay downtown and only venture out of downtown you will not like it.

I haven't been to Nashville, but isn't East Nashville the cool part of town? For those putting it down, did you go to East Nashville?

+1000. Also former Nashville resident. This city is busting with creatives and there is ALL types of live music in Nashville and the talent is absolutely incredible. Food scene is also top notch. There is bound to be some kind of festival, art show or event going on. The social scene in Nashville is huge- just look into it.

They have definitely got a Nazi problem, google it.

it's one of the biggest disappointments. It's a giant s-hole of bachelorette parties and people vomiting. There's also construction sites, empty glass buildings and traffic.

Seriously! I was prepared for a really cool scene, and from Thursday to Sunday Broadway is like a lame, try-hard version of Bourbon Street in NoLa. Bars overflowing with aggressive bros and women too old to be wearing tubetops and pink cowboy hats, screaming and every bar is blasting Usher or Lil Jon. There's virtually no country to be heard!

The one positive experience I had WAS extremely positive—the Station Inn was SUPER cool, very chill, cheap and filled with chill people and I saw a fantastic bluegrass band (ironically from Baltimore) who played their hearts out and were amazing. But it's not near downtown and it's surrounded by very expensive restaurants in a kind of sleepy upscale area. Lexuses and Mercedes taking up all the parking...

Such a weird place — felt like a lot of people working very hard to make it seem authentic and fun, and all they were doing was creating a hellhole for raucous bachelorette parties.

I agree with all you said.

Do you remember the name of the band?

Racist white men in Tennessee, who would’ve thunk it.

It's possible to have a nice trip there and not do too much of the stuff you aren't interested in (though I would recommend the country music hall of fame even if it's not usually your thing). There are bike trails and a nice zoo, good restaurants, the Tennessee State museum was interesting and the farmers market next to it had some good lunch options. lots of civil rights history and suffrage stuff. A beautiful central library and the Frist or Cheekwood for some art. There are plays and symphonies and college/pro sports.

The main question is if those are things your friends also want to do. If they want to do shots and dance on the bar you should probably not go on this trip with them.
