They only want kids with BB to A times. Even then, they have very limited spots

Tollefson also doesn’t have room, but it’s worth emailing Henry just in case

Can you specify this a little bit more? If you consider YMCA an option, ASA can be too competitive but they are somewhat less so to NCAP or RMSC. There are many swimmers in ASA from NCC area. For summer team CCRA should be a natural choice but I believe there is a long waitlist.

I know nothing about the Y, just proximity, but based on what I am reading he wants something much more competitive. ASA looks about the level he is seeking (thanks for the rec all), but it looks like they are full. Also, is it just me, or are clubs way more expensive in MD over VA?

It's all about supply and demand. There are way more options in Northern VA than Montgomery County/NWDC. So, no, you're not imagining it...

Not OP but also wondering about lower MoCo options when you move to the area too late to attend most of the tryouts (like mid-August). They’re 11 so hesitant to just wait for next year.

I would email programs and see. Most stuff is full but you never know until you ask

Sea Devils and Machine have evals on a rolling basis, so mid-August isn't necessarily too late. The former is likely more convenient than the latter, location-wise, but we found the drive worth it for a robust program.

Many teams will be full come end of July. E-mailing coaches and explaining your move AFTER looking at the schedules of the various groups that would apply to your swimmer makes the most sense. Please be realistic as you read through the information for the group - both in terms of your swimmer's ability and their commitment in terms of desire and time. The only team that 100% would not be an option is DCWave as they are a lottery system after you do a try-out (even if you have a positive try out you are not necessarily able to get a spot) and all of that is past for this season now. Any other team may have a spot open up as, like you, people move. In your area I would read the info and if it makes sense, email ASA, NCAP, Sea Devils and Tollefson. If you are willing to drive a bit TIBU is up in Gaithersburg/Germantown and there are a number of clubs in the east of the county at Fairland or UMD, including Machine.
