The state should get rid of the 2nd semester health requirement and replace it with personal finance. -NP

+1million. What is the gosh damn point of second semester health?

It was a response to COVID and the mental health crisis. Because you know, kids mental health will improve when they have to take a mindless class that they hate and are talked down to.

The health two has nothing to do with health or mental health, its all the same non-sense mcps stuff with one small section on sex ed. We are doing it now and its a nightmare.

They have done financial literacy in two of our social studies/history classes.

Who is teaching your class? My kids class has gone over Grief, Suicide, Stress.

Kids would learn about as much from this as they do from health. Their intent is noble but in practice these courses just create more requirements and create a lot of pointless busy work.

I took a personal finance class my freshman year of college and it was one of the most useful classes in all 4 years of undergrad. It depends on the teacher of course but I think it is critical and some kids don’t get this guidance at home. MCPS should definitely require it.

Except this would be a terrible class where you don't learn anything that an average person wouldn't already understand and would be required to do countless worksheets.

Would there be an honors version or would this be an honors for all situation?

Both Health A and B are Honors only.

When will they offer honors PE?

The Ws will get it first!

Do you think the average high schooler understands the difference between buying and leasing a car, how compounded interest works, what retirement accounts are available? A lot of this information was helpful to me as an 18-year-old, and set me up to make some good financial choices when I got out of college.
