Personal Finance class

Anonymous
Would someone please share what's included in the semester long personal finance class?

Thanks!

The course description only says:

SOC2102
Students learn the skills and knowledge that will help them to make wise financial decisions. The course will help them to learn the importance of financial responsibility and money management.

I hope to god they don't make this a requirement.

The state should get rid of the 2nd semester health requirement and replace it with personal finance. -NP

It was a response to COVID and the mental health crisis. Because you know, kids mental health will improve when they have to take a mindless class that they hate and are talked down to.

Kids would learn about as much from this as they do from health. Their intent is noble but in practice these courses just create more requirements and create a lot of pointless busy work.

I think it's really up to each individual teacher so you should have your kid ask students from their school.

I took a personal finance class my freshman year of college and it was one of the most useful classes in all 4 years of undergrad. It depends on the teacher of course but I think it is critical and some kids don’t get this guidance at home. MCPS should definitely require it.

Would rather they don't add more requirements especially for classes like health or this.

The health two has nothing to do with health or mental health, its all the same non-sense mcps stuff with one small section on sex ed. We are doing it now and its a nightmare.

They have done financial literacy in two of our social studies/history classes.

When will they offer honors PE?

Can this course be combined with Health course and other classes? For ex., one quarter of health, one finance, one pe, one student's choice.

That would not satisfy the MD state graduation requirements.
