Weird bug - just mucus in back of throat, no other symptoms

Anonymous
This was me all last fall. It was like some weird environmental viral infection with no other symptoms except for a raspy voice and thick mucous. My PCP prescribed an antibiotic, but it didn't help with improvement.

She later recommended using a NetiPot, and that was the game changer. I used it twice daily, and the saline rinse helped tremendously with breaking up the buildup. Mine was so bad that it showed on an (unrelated) MRI.

Could it be perimenopause OP? I had some weird congestion in the back of my throat and postnasal drip for a couple weeks this spring. It is a reasonably common symptom of peri. Now it kind of comes and goes.

In peri Everything dries out, including your mucous membranes, and makes things harder to clear.

Of course It could be a mild bug. But just putting that out there.

I had something like this last year and it was a sinus infection. My doctor wouldn’t prescribe an antibiotic until ten days passed. It was pretty miserable as I felt I was living in a sewer and I will leave it at that. I think it’s called sinusitis.

I tested negative twice. Maybe I should do it again.

did you swab your throat first thing in the am before eating or drinking anything?

Sounds just like what I have. Started with a very mild cough for about 3 days. Yesterday I woke up with a wicked sore throat and body aches. Today no more sore throat or aches but massive and painful head congestion. Covid tested yesterday and today (normally we wouldn’t test but I work in a residential facility and we still require quarantine if positive) and both tests were negative.
Just another run of the mill virus I guess.

It’s me again. Just tested positive. This was test #3.

PLEASE isolate!

At my work I have no choice. It’s a residential facility and we still require 10 days out. I’m not isolating from my family tho - my first two covid tests were negative so I was around them for the first two days. The damage is already done.

I’ve been sitting on my screened in porch for 3 days and have zero plans of going anywhere.

Did you have any other symptoms besides mucus in the throat?

I didn’t realize you can swab your throat. The tests I have instruct nasal swabbing.

This isn't true though you might spare them! I know first hand!

You can swab your throat! It works better to catch it days sooner. I've also heard you can swab diarrhea but never tried that!

That was my first covid symptom the first two times I’ve had covid so far.

Keep drinking lots of water. Swab your throat to remove the clump of mucus a couple of times each day. Gargle with salt water and Listerine. It will take a couple of weeks to clear.

Just curious if the original poster ended up testing positive for COVID?? I have these exact symptoms...just post nasal drip...maybe a slightly runny nose and a tiny swollen gland. I have taken THREE COVID tests and they are all negative. I am supposed to see my parents this weekend though so I am a little nervous that it is actually COVID. I am hoping just some virus.
