Scary strangers came to my FB

do not engage in political posting on facebook, period.

THIS. You are inviting in unhinged and crazed people from both sides. Do not post about it, and do not engage.

When I said scary, not to me personally but as a reflection of what's going on right now.

Idiots leaving their politics public on FB are terrifying, it's true.

Fix yourself, OP. You're a mess.

I finf if I comment on any public page (eg a favorite restaurant or museum) I eventually, sometimes years later, get a "reply" from an army vet, single dad, guy with kittens, etc.
They say how thoughtful my profile is, how beautiful I am, etc. and they don't want to intrude but hope I will make them a friend.
This is of course total BS because I have few public posts on my feed, never post pictures of myself. Over time, sometimes that photo of the guy is reused. I block them.

Civil war? Over a troubled kid? Hyperbole much.

Lock down your profile settings. Set your posts to "friends only." I like Facebook, but only people I personally know can see what I post.

But like I tell my kids (who don't have any social media yet) any time you post or send a picture or message, assume that you run the risk of someone else seeing it. If you don't want it out there, don't post it.

I see so many older women getting those posts from shy single wealthy men. I don't know how it works, how the scammers or the trump supporters find you but if you set your profile to public they will find you.

If you need to know how to adjust your settings, Google it.

are you for real? I am a Derm and if the "troubled kid" had killed Trump we would be in a gigantic mess now, with violence erupting all over.

I mostly love Facebook for keeping up with family and recording memories. However you OP, are everything I dislike! No one should have a personal page with public postings. I also make liberal use of "Snooze 30 days" anytime someone posts about political crap, nasty jokes, or their cat.

Tighten your settings and don’t give the trolls another thought. They’re trying to make you mad and trying to divide America. Sadly, it’s working b/c Americans spend way too much time online.

This. Look at your security settings and ignore trolls on Facebook.

People who aren’t my “friends” can’t see or comment on my posts. I don’t allow “ friends of friends” either. My profile pic is a beach landscape from a vacation. I don’t write controversial things anywhere my name is attached. I only discuss those things here.

Yes, if you want to avoid randos (and criminals), why leave it open to the public????

Well, if your account is set to public, you are trolling for randos and scammers. That is the world we live in.

You have no right to complain if you leave yourself open to any psycho that stumbles upon it. Really, you seem very naive and unrealistic.

there's going to be political violence from the right this year no matter what happens.

Also, none of the powerful people in the GOP like the guy, there would have been an insane scramble to stamp out the embers of Trump-ism and bring back the George W. Bush style of GOP. It would have blown over very quickly.

They are more than likely artificial intelligence bots not real humans
