They don't, really — it's been occasionally proposed as an idea, but neither party is interested in actually doing this. Ignoring whether it's good policy, the politics are bad: Why do voters in your district or state elsewhere in the country want you to eliminate federal taxes for rich people in D.C.? Or to drive up the value of our homes here? |
Every DC resident should be pushing our leaders to get rid of federal taxes. It’s such a better deal than statehood. |
The question was about DC. If you live in VA or MD, you do not live in DC. |
Research the implications before you reach a conclusion on that. PP is intentionally making it seem like a great thing. |
Especially since many long term Congressmen eventually buy homes in DC. |
(... and everyone knows Rs are never going to do it anyway. It's another vote grabbing lie.). |
They don’t need to live here. They need to be domiciled here. Know the game. |
omg |
Don’t get so excited, it’s not a real policy proposal. It’s just their ODD response to any rumblings about DC statehood. |
Me too |
But what is the incentive for members of Congress — none of whom represent D.C. — to want to do this? You can write the TV ad attacking someone for it in your sleep: "Senator Jones voted to give tax cuts to Beltway fat cats. What did he do to help us here in Nebraska?" We can push all we want, but that won't really matter. |
Because they know the ads don’t matter any more. And your votes won’t matter either - “it was rigged!” |
| Democratic without a doubt. R’s want to destroy the federal government. |
GOP will turn DC into a tax haven making property untenable for all but the most wealthy. Book it, a 10% city tax and no federal taxes. |
