Can you explain for PMSL how you can actually swim all these swimmers in a Saturday meet? My understanding is 12/team in free and back and 6/team in fly and breast. However only the top two from each team score. Does this mean you could bring 20 8Us for free and then what? You just have to run more heats than 4 (with the 12/team limit?). Just trying to understand how the actual meets go. |
We frequently agree with the other team to run additional heats. It’s nice that lots of kids get a chance to swim at the A meet. The team feels very cohesive. Many of our officials are USA Swimming officials and we run meets fast. We are usually done by noon. |
There were 6-7 heats in some of the A division U little events this Saturday. Thank goodness it wasn't as hot as the weeks before but still pretty rough |
Not sure cheverly will go up. They won season on points but will probably finish 2nd or 3rd at divisionials. |
As a long time PMSL family, this is a great explanation. I love our league and while they are some exceptional swimmers, it is pretty low key and kids (and families) are in it for the fun of it. |
' 'Many PMSL teams are smaller. Our PMSL team only has 65 kids and on any given week, we only have about 50 kids swimming. Some age groups only have a handful of swimmers. We have gone to PMSL meets for years and there have been very few meets where we have more than 3 heats (and that is typically only free.) |
As a small PMSL team, do you typically indulge if opponents ask for extra free and back heats for the little guys (even if that means 2-3 heats that are ONLY the other team?) |
Always. The last few weeks we have had a third heat that was entirely the opposing team doing 8 and under free and 4/6 of the 2nd heat was opposing teams. I think we only have 4 swimmers out of 24 swimmers in that event. I can't remember the last time the opposing team asked for more than 3 heats since we never have 12 kids swimming an event and they take up the remaining spots. |
Is there a list of pools that participate in Prince Mont somewhere? |

Thank you! |
In MCSL, do A meet swimmers get to swim B meets too? |
Nope. We enjoy being the low key summer league. We aren't interested in A/B meets, high stress, and being cutthroat competitive.... |
I would at least be interested in B meets. It takes a special kid to go to practice early in the morning every day for 7 weeks to be fine finishing out of the top 10 and only getting to swim back and free time and time again. |
Our coach lets new swimmers swim breast and fly even if they aren't 100% legal. But the team is small enough to allow us the space to put in these kids while also swimming fast/legal kids. |
