FCPS High School Varsity Boy's Volleyball

Yeah, doesn't surprise me at all. My kid plays AAU and I can't imagine any of those kids being interested in volleyball. Definitely seen as a girls sport. I guess that's good b/c the boys who want to play won't have to compete with the talented athletes from basketball.

If FCPS can offer golf (not something most HS kids care about or want to compete in) they can offer boys volleyball.

There are lots of sports they *could* theoretically offer, but the SB doesn't seem to consider space restraints in their overcrowded, poorly designed buildings.

I don't get adding such unpopular sports. Wrestling for girls? Flag football would be way more popular. Volleyball for boys? Freshman soccer would be way more popular.

Your kid doesn’t have to participate in this or any other sports. But you sound like a jerk when you complain about new sport that boys petitioned FCPS for years to add.

I don’t think we needed to spend $800,000 in a tight budget year to add boys volleyball. Why wasn’t club good enough? Yielding to this pressure campaign by a small number of kids is poor practice.

I don't see the cost benefit analysis. If they are taking resources for a new sport, it should be something that benefits the most kids. Volleyball is not a popular sport for boys, and it takes money and gym space and title 10 slots away from other uses.

Oh please, this was organized by their parents. The loudest minority shouldn't be catered to.

The fact that you’re so put out about it tells me you’re anticipating your school’s team will suck. Too bad.

Why would I care if the boys volleyball team sucked or not? I only care if they take away gym space from fall basketball workouts.

Grow up. Not everything is about basketball.

Why would you want him to play volleyball?

It is because most parents are too poor to afford Country Club. That's why schools like Langley win the state title in golf almost all the times.

I care about them taking gym space from girls volleyball. The boys football team already gets our best practice fields every day after school leaving field hockey to duke it out with soccer clubs trying to rent our other fields. Now girls volleyball loses too. I guess it's clear which gender FCPS cares about

Take it up with your AD and stop whining. Might as well say girls basketball should be canceled because it complicates the practices for boys basketball.
