That was a SB decision. There was no “bargaining” on this.

+1, Solutions were identified during principal meetings, which were than escalated through FCPS and brought to the school board. It had nothing to do with unions.

It was to accommodate the lack of ES teachers planning time, which has essentially been an issue since they did away with half-days.

Weird the district with the highest budget can’t do what neighboring districts with significantly lower costs do.

Some of the pyramids have a three hour early release on Nov 25. This is the week of Thanksgiving where they have Wednesday through Friday off, too. They are pushing families now to just take the whole week off.
There is only one full day of school that week on Tuesday, Nov 26.

Specifically which districts and what are they doing?

Budgets and costs are two different things. Of course FCPS is going to have a larger budget since it’s a much larger district. What are the others doing differently and what is the cost difference?

I can't imagine teachers not seeing a half day on Monday, a full day Tuesday, Wed-Fri off and not just taking leave for Monday and Tuesday. Or calling in sick.

Right. This is not helpful. If anything, give the early release on Tuesday, so families can get a jump start on DMV traffic to drive to family out of town. Who wants to wait around, piddling around with only 3 hours of school on a Monday and then only 1 full day on Tuesday to then jump on 495 to travel. The kids will rightfully be very unfocused on Tuesday, excited for trips, and holidays. The half Monday adds to this lack of ability to focus.

That was something that some teachers would do anyways during that short week. This is nothing different, they may still opt to take 2 days of PTO.
