| But I agree, not sure about a "knife section". Kitchen tools? Whole foods has one . |
|
I go to that Wegmans multiple times a week - the only thing they have apart from plastic cutlery are those tiny gift cheese knives by the fancy cheese section right before the flowers. Just makes me wonder what else in that listserv email is a similar exaggeration.
That being said your ANC rep is the best person for follow up questions on these types of matters since they have a contact at MPD they can reach out to. If you get a response maybe you can share on here as well. |
Sure, but the Post article is not an exaggeration. And presumably these teens are somewhere doing something, when they are meant to be supervised. My ANC rep wouldn't have a thing to say about this - at this point NW DC ANC reps are a bunch of GGWers who opine solely on vibrant urban density. |
| Huh? You email the rep and ask for an update from MPD about the situation. You’re not asking for their opinion lol. I’ve done this several times with our Ward 3 rep and they’ve always been prompt and helpful. |
Ward 3 is supposed to be “inclusive” and “welcoming” to all. Apparently even to the violent criminally insane. Thanks Bowser! |
| Tons of management at PIW but barely any staff..Staff are basically Correctional Officers..They live on new staff( College graduates) bc they know nobody wants to work there.. |
DC also has St Elizabeths |
I think PIW is for short term care and supervision (including providing locked room services)--like someone up on charges deemed in need of psychological services so they are remanded there rather than home or released to report in later--and St. Elizabeth's (which has been seriously downsized and parceled out to other entities like Homeland Security and housing development) is for long term care and supervision of someone convicted, like a Hinkley. PIW is privately run with a contract to the city, and I believe St. Elizabeth's is directly administered by DC Gov. |
| Sorry, I meant rather than "jail" ^. Some of the folks in PIW would otherwise be in DC Jail. |
|
This is a good distinction between St. Elizabeth's and PIW. Other D.C. hospitals have small psychiatric units, but they are largely for voluntary, non-violent patients only. PIW has many problems. First and foremost, it is owned by UHS, which is a for-profit healthcare company. It seeks profit above all else. Secondly, the ratios at PIW are dangerous. The nurses take care of at least twice as many patients as they do on other area psychiatric units. The lure: PIW pays them more. Thirdly, PIW does not have security officers inside the building. I'm surprised to hear that there are officers outside the building. |
Actually the police did know. It was reported that night the incident happened. And the detailed officers were on the scene. PIW didn’t fail anyone . PIW done all possible to prevent them from escaping. For crying sakes these are experienced criminals whom caused harm to a staff and also committed robbery. What more do you want PIW to do other than what was done. |
| My Wegman’s has a knife section. Steak knives and such. |
PIW is so notorious for violent criminals escaping that there is a police cruiser stationed there full time. Perhaps PIW should increase their own security infrastructure and protocols? Just a thought. |
| Not to worry, CM Frumin will find them nice apartments at Connecticut House. Welcome to Ward 3! |
