Remarkably Bright Creatures

The Measure is definitely a conversation-provoking book if that's what you're going for. It's not great literature but it's an easy read and would be ripe for discussion.

This is how I feel about Six-Thirty in Lessons in Chemistry. But he's one of my favorite literary characters in general, not just of the animal variety.

I loved it but I have to admit I'm obsessed with octopuses (and no, it's not "octopi" for the grammar police).

I've tried twice now to get my book club interested in The Measure and they just won't bite. I didn't think it was a particularly well-written book, but I thought the premise of it is super interesting and would make for great discussion. Just when you think you've thought of every possible scenario in which knowing how long you'll live could be used in your favor or against you, the book comes up with another new ethical quandary for you to mull over.

+1

Interesting concept and lots of great ethical issues and discussion topics. But the character development and writing were both pretty awful. I found the disconnect jarring, but think it would be good for a book club!

LOL. I was about to chime in to say the same. Both characters were fabulous. (Marcellus, especially so, if you listened to the audiobook!)

I hated every character except the Octopus.

3 out of 5 stars for me. People in book club loved it. I thought it was ok and totally predictable. And a bit hokey.

Listened to the audiobook. It was unique and interesting but I found myself wondering often if the book had a point? It took a very very long meandering way to get to a story. The "meat" of the book would only be a chapter or two.

You'll never find a book that 10/10 people love.

Lily and the Octopus.

It's a nice summer read. Creative. Not very heavy. A couple interesting themes.
