| Anyone read? Looking for a very stimulating book for apathetic book club. Mixed reviews. |
| Oh, it's cute enough! Not sure if it's "very stimulating," but it's clever and keeps you reading. |
| I'd agree with the PP. It's a lovely, creative, heartwarming book. But it's not "very stimulating." |
| I expected to find it too cutesy, but gave it a try and loved it. |
| I wanted to like it but found it to be very dumbed down. |
| I loved this book. Loved it. But it got mixed reviews at our book club. I think everyone liked it well enough. The Measure was a great book club discussion book. |
|
Ok, thanks, any more recs? The will look into The Measure, too.
|
| Loved it and the measure also. |
+1 All of my 5/5 stars go to Marcellus, but that's about it. |
|
I loved it and I'm sure there's plenty you could talk about. Marcellus was my favorite literary animal of all time.
The Measure is definitely a conversation-provoking book if that's what you're going for. It's not great literature but it's an easy read and would be ripe for discussion. |
| Wouldn’t call it stimulating but it’s definitely engaging. It touches on few topics that would make an interesting discussion but nothing too deep. Main characters, especially an octopus, are very likable and relatable. |
| It gave me something to feel cheerful about, but the brainier members of my book club didn’t care for it. |
| If your group like animals, I also enjoyed West with Giraffes. BTW, my book group enjoyed Remarkably Bright Creatures. |
Everyone but Marcellus was shallow and annoying. |
I've tried twice now to get my book club interested in The Measure and they just won't bite. I didn't think it was a particularly well-written book, but I thought the premise of it is super interesting and would make for great discussion. Just when you think you've thought of every possible scenario in which knowing how long you'll live could be used in your favor or against you, the book comes up with another new ethical quandary for you to mull over. |
