Likely BPPV- vertigo

Can take months to fully resolve.

Is yours bppv? Mine only certain positions when I move head. Otherwise fine

I have bppv & vestibular migraine. I have to stay on top of my water consumption & diet. No nuts, nut oil, spicy peppers, or heavily processed meat for me.

Do you do maneuvers?

Just to clarify, ear crystals are otoliths. These are normal structures and reside in the deeper structures of the ear that we cannot see with the naked eye. They help tell our brain when we move our head what is north and what is south. When these otoliths move out of the deeper structures of the ear, it can result in the sensation of vertigo. When a patient has the symptoms of vertigo and we think it is a peripheral cause (rather than central due to stroke, brain mass etc) our first impulse it to try "particle repositioning." The Epley maneuver is one of of them and can certainly make vertigo worse. I recommend you google Dr. Carol Foster and Vertigo and you will see her recommended exercise called half sommersault maneuver (and no you do not have to be a gymnast or athlete to do it). This exercise can be practiced several times a day and is HIGHLY successful for otolith relocation and resolution of vertigo. Hope this helps...

Hi! So I did the Carol Foster maneuver and it didn't really induce dizziness. Not sure if I did it wrong, if I need the Epley, if it's not BPPV or what. I can't imagine it's not BPPV. I'm fine 98% of the day unless I move my head certain directions. Mostly in bed turning

It definitely sounds like BPV. Have to repeat the maneuver several times-keep doing it daily.

The lying on back Eply did not help me. The one on knees did a little.

What I think helped more was finding the right pillows for neck support, spending less time laying on couch in bad positions, and doing yoga and Pilates to improve posture and relieve neck tension.

I hope you find something that helps.

The vestibule PT I went to did several things to confirm my vertigo was BPPV (I was pretty sure it was as I had several episodes about 10
years before this time). She then used VR looking googles to track my eye movement as I changes positions. This helped show which canal was causing the problem and then she did both Eppley and another movement and sent me home with instructions for both. Fortunately the vertigo didn’t return after the office visit but I did continue them a couple of days.

I saw an ENT for the vertigo the first two times - I thought the work with the PT The as more targeted (but also 10 years later so maybe there are more tools now).

It's turning your head in bed. Don't.
It usually gets better in 2 weeks ime.

Solid advice here. I experienced BPPV and it is torture, especially at night. I could only lay on my left side and if I suddenly moved on my back or right side, it would feel like the bed was spinning violently.

The epley maneuver helps but going through it is awful at first.

It took me two weeks to start to move past it. During that time, I couldn't sleep on my right side, tilt my head that way, etc.

There are good physical therapists out there that specialize in vertigo treatment.
