AP Scholar designation

Its meaningless

The colleges see your actual scores on the actual tests. They don't need this "award" why is an information-losing summary of your actual transcript.

From what we understand, colleges use AP scores for placement/credit, not for admissions decisions so we weren’t going to list all the scores but it seems like listing the “scholar with distinction” designation as an honor can’t hurt…

That's what my kid did too.

It actually has a very specific meaning.

If your student receives this award before senior year, and has room in the app, yes of course they list the award. Maybe it doesn't mean much considering that the student can also list the scores in the testing section, but there's no reason not to include the award in the award section. I can't think of a reason one wouldn't include it (unless "there isn't room").

Right- it shows that grade inflation alone doesn't explain your student's GPA of 4.85 or whatever it is because, at least in some classes, got decent AP scores. Better than nothing.

No. If a kid scores high on all of their AP exams, it shows they have a good understanding of those subjects and it is standardized. It’s not subjective.

My kid will get AP scholar with distinction. He took 2 tests as a junior and 4 as a senior. It may not matter to the college since he’s already chosen a school to attend, but it matters to his high school and to us!

I think I would put it on only if it’s the only honor the kid has. If there’s anything else—any one thing at all— I’d leave it off. It’s so low-level it’s fairly meaningless and doesn’t give more info than the actual AP scores.

Same experience. Not notable enough to waste a spot on application.

My kid who should quit school now and forgo college based on this thread has 6 3s and 2 4s so weeks by with AP Scholar with Honors.

Only about 5 percent of HS graduates get this honor or higher so it’s not horrible.
