| Catch them and then drown them in 5 gallon buckets. |
| They’ve made a nest in my car but I think they got tired of going for rides - I now feed them peanuts in locations that are more appropriate. Keeps them occupied |
|
We live trap them and then drop them off in a corn field!
But more appear! |

Certain cars coat their electric wires with a soy-based, not plastic-based, coating. This phenomenon is the reason rodents reach into the interior of cars *from the underside* to chew the wires. I've only seen rats doing this, not mice or chipmunks. It's surprising to me that rodents would do this now, when there should be plenty to eat elsewhere - unless you're in a very urban, arid, or predator-heavy locale, OP? Anyway. It's too bad you're killing chipmunks. |

This works great:

We had squirrels chew the wires under the hood of our car. On a separate occasion it was mice. They also tear apart any insulation under the hood for nesting. |
| Chipmunks are cute but burrow holes under sidewalks and porches and eventually cause them to collapse |
You don't have to kill to solve this. You can soak cotton balls in peppermint oil and stick it up under your car to deter them. They also sell pest deterrent to spray under your car. |
| You're a horrible person, OP. Is there a humane way to get rid of people? And if that offends you, now you understand why trying to kill chipmunks is offensive. I never ceases to amaze me how people want to get rid of wildlife. You're in their habitat. Deal with it. I doubt they are destroying your entire property. It's not even winter time. What makes you think they are interested in your car, except to escape you guys trying to kill them on their own territory. They are the cutest things. So sad. |
Can you post that please? Not calling you a liar, I just really want to see for the cuteness |
Thanks for thinking of the doggies ☺️ |
I hope no one is cruel enough to do this. Can we lock this thread? |
Not just the engine - rodents made their way into my vehicle via the engine block and chewed all the napkins in the glovebox, then they started in on chewing the cushions in the seats, and leaving pieces of napkins and seat cushion foam in various nooks and crannies throughout the vehicle. Automobiles are not sealed environments and rodents will find a way, if they wish to. |
This. We have used this method a lot and will need to use it again unfortunately. |
| Please stop talking about this. The subject is "humane way to get rid of chipmunks". Drowning is inhumane. And in some states it's illegal to kill chipmunks. |
