the school has gotten rich from donations and aggressive investing. higher endowment than brown, cornell, dartmouth and a bunch of other top schools. it’s good they are reinvesting

how is the cost amazing instate? are you thinking of umd?

Yeah. Wtf? My kid got in this year but headed to an Ivy instead. Not a Baltimore fan.

JHU is private so it’s $87k/yr—maybe the person misread it as JMU?

It was need blind in 1992.

Their new grad school building in DC that opened earlier this year is a thing of beauty.

On the plus side, there are also amazing college student and tourist friendly parts too like inner harbor, harbor east, fed hill, fells point that are hipster deeper into baltimore. Proximity to towson mall as well.

Campus is gorgeous but it can get cold during winter with snow.

I live in Baltimore and it doesn't snow much anymore. It is a pretty campus and has a nice walking trail alongside it (I walk my dog there sometimes). Lots of off campus housing nearby too.

It is still a grind that chews up students into bone dust. Massive grade deflation. It is one of the hardest universities in the country.

I think they are confusing JMU with JHU.

Fine with that. Save the $ for the US kids. In fact, let’s raise the bar on what constitutes need.

My bad. I read that as JMU.

Don’t be silly. Endowment per student:
JHU 329k
Brown 642k
Dartmouth 1.3 million
Cornell 395k

JHU endowment per student rank: #83

It was really one of the prettiest campuses we’ve seen, which surprised me.

What’s the downside? Is it still a grinder school? Kid would be majoring in something like international relations, def not pre med.

Go during the year. Stray from the tour. Go into buildings and see every classroom filled, and kids packed like sardines studying all the time. On. A. Weekend. Campus will suddenly feel small. More importantly, it will feel soulless.
