We were there about a year ago. We could get lunches for $10 or less. Dinners--depends where you go. Unless you go to the high end restaurants you will be paying a lot less for dinners than in urban US restaurants. High end restaurants will be about the same as high end restaurants in the US. We found the rental car to be very inexpensive. |
Which beaches have the calmest water? |
| Thanks everyone! These are some great ideas. |
DP here. This is the part where I always get stuck when I attempt to plan a trip to PR. I want calm clear water without shlepping to Vieques. |
| Also interested in PR ..possibly thanksgiving or spring break. If going for 4-5 days, what part of the island should we target as our base. Is the area where St Regis is a good base? We are adventurous so would want access activities other than just going to the beach. |
We stayed at Wyndham Rio Mar, which is often recommended on this site. We thought it was great, although the water at the beach is pretty rough (but the Wyndam is surrounded by a gated golf community, so the beach is as close as you get to private in PR -- there were always open chairs on the beach and it was a lovely wide beach). It is right outside the entrance to El Junque, about 45 minutes from Old Town San Juan (we took an uber in), and about 20 minutes from the dock that a lot of boats leave from. Our vacation was 5 days and that was pretty perfect -- we spent one day at El Yunque, one day visiting Old San Juan and the forts, one day we were going to take a boat trip to snorkel at Culebra but it was sadly cancelled for high seas, and the other days we spent at the pool/beach. We got a great price through Costco Travel. There are other places closer to San Juan, if you want to be able to do more city stuff. |
Nope, maybe in March. My kids have a February break and so spring break is in April, and that's a great time to visit if you plan to be outdoorsy and spend a lot of time hiking or biking, walking around shopping or visiting gardens without freezing or sweating. The only thing is the water's cold for rafting or kayaking. I prefer summer for that. |
We also stayed here. Found the waves near the hotel too rough so instead went to a wonderfully pleasant beach Luquillo about a 15 min drive away. |
| I know you said US based, but how about Quebec? |
| Denver (without skiing) if you dont mind variable weather - we got some snow and some days of 70 degrees and sunny. |
We aren’t skiers either but had a great trip to Deer Valley for this past Spring break. Beautiful and still covered in snow but very pleasant weather, did snowshoeing and snowmobiling, checked out some nice art galleries. There’s the Olympic village. Plenty to do for a week. So relaxing and peaceful. |
I actually wouldn't mind Quebec but husband will probably think it's too cold. |
