We stayed at Wyndham Rio Mar, which is often recommended on this site.  We thought it was great, although the water at the beach is pretty rough (but the Wyndam is surrounded by a gated golf community, so the beach is as close as you get to private in PR -- there were always open chairs on the beach and it was a lovely wide beach).  It is right outside the entrance to El Junque, about 45 minutes from Old Town San Juan (we took an uber in), and about 20 minutes from the dock that a lot of boats leave from.  Our vacation was 5 days and that was pretty perfect -- we spent one day at El Yunque, one day visiting Old San Juan and the forts, one day we were going to take a boat trip to snorkel at Culebra but it was sadly cancelled for high seas, and the other days we spent at the pool/beach.  We got a great price through Costco Travel.  There are other places closer to San Juan, if you want to be able to do more city stuff.  [/quote]

We also stayed here. Found the waves near the hotel too rough so instead went to a wonderfully pleasant beach Luquillo about a 15 min drive away. [/quote]
