Length of time from your first skipped period to full on menopause?

I think for me it was about 4 years. I would go for months and think it was over, and then get a period. Then go for months and months again. For years. I was officially one-year period free last September.

The hot flashes and sleep problems were horrible and I've gone on HRT, but you didn't ask about that.

I’m 50 and I had 3 years of irregular periods, anywhere between every 2 weeks to 5 weeks. Followed by a year of skipping a period every so often. Now, it’s been 8 months since my last period.

Also, no other symptoms. No hot flashes or sleep issues.

I'm 54. I skipped once two years ago. In September of last year, I had a super heavy period with horrible cramping. Usually, I have a medium flow with zero cramping. I had my last period in December. Hoping I'm done for good.

I'm 56. I haven't skipped a month yet. A few months ago, I had a 40 day cycle but since then it's been every 26-29 days. No real signs of perimenopause other than weight gain. I hope I don't have years after I miss one.

I haven't skipped one yet (52). My cycle is has been a bit unpredictable the last couple of years, but the last few have st least been slightly less heavy. Sometimes I'll have a short period, but I usually pay the next month with one that lasts 12 days.

I've had night sweats a few times (not for awhile) and the occasional 2 weeks of sore boobs.

My mother's period abruptly stopped at 50 and never came back, no symptoms. She actually scolds me for doing this wrong lol

I’m 45 and just had a 78 day cycle followed by a light period. My periods have gotten closer together (25 days on average vs 35 in my your) since I was 42/43, and I had almost always missed one period per year. I had some hot flashes at the beginning of this long cycle for the first time ever. Tested hormones and they are normal. Hot flashes went away after three weeks or so. Gyno gave me a prescription for low dose HRT but I haven’t tried it yet; all I tried was a bit of topical Estriol cream.

Perimenopause is so weird.

Not sure if I am there yet, started skipping periods at 49, been a year.

My period stopped about a year ago but then returned about 8 months later. And it's now been regular for the past 3 months. Super annoying as I hopped after 8 months it was gone for good.

Ugh. Why did I think this was just a yearlong thing? Not into this business if not knowing when my period’s going to hit. It’s amazing how often I would be eating everything sweet in the house, not wanting to do any work and just stay up late and sad, and then we get my period next today. As of last month (first missed period) I have nothing to blame my sweets inhalation on!

Why don’t men have to go through this? I was lucky enough not to care that much about getting my period. The initial shock after puberty, but why is it that when I’ve sort of got some stability in my career and life in general after my kids hitting double digits, do
I have to deal with this change nonsense?

Turning 49 this year. I have been irregular for about 12 months now I’m so sad that I’m losing my fertility, I really wanted to have another baby. I cry about this almost every day.

Stopped, no symptoms in December for the first time at 53. 54 now- Just had one/having one now 7 months later but it’s relatively light, nothing like the super heavy ones o hot right before it stopped. It’s funny- I was getting chocolate cravings and that crappy ovary pain, even midcycle ovulation discharge this month so I don’t know why I was surprised when the period started. I thought it was over I guess. Now I need to restart the clock. I was loving no periods and all the perimenopause symptoms from the past few years stopped too. No HRT here.

My periods started getting wonky about 6 years before my last period.

I think it was several years for me. And I do remember one extremely heavy period out of the blue in the midst of it. And they got shorter....

I skipped periods 3 months in a row, then had one more, then never again. And that was 6 years ago.
