QS has always been anglocentric. |
I guess. The top 25-50 seem fine. But then it all gets weird. I can't believe that some obscure Malaysian university (even if it is the best or top two there) is better than solid R1s in the US (e.g. UMD/Ohio State). |
I always get this survey but didn't fill it out this year. The survey is essentially a large-scale reputation poll where respondents are asked to name the schools they think are best in various ways/areas. I do not know what other metrics go into the final rankings and would therefore take them with a grain of salt. |
To what extent are that rankings bought and paid for / manipulated?
Like sure I'm sure these Australian schools that no one has heard of are fine schools, but to rank them globally above many of these powerhouse names is just absurd. |

These are large research based graduate school rankings. They are meaningless for undergrad. |
Rankings are ridiculous, generally. And this particular list is graduate level research oriented. Having said that, University of Sydney and University of Melbourne are amazing. To suggest no one has heard of them is crazy. This is a global list. You don’t really think that just because a university is not on your limited DCUM radar, it must not be excellent? |
