A so-called “baby bonds” bill is being considered in Montgomery County, in which $1,800 would be invested for every child born in the Maryland county.
The Child Investment Fund would be overseen by an 13-member committee, and the funds would be available for applicants once they reach age 18. Those eligible to draw from the funds would have to meet a number of requirements including: Being born after Jan. 1, 2024 Being residents of Montgomery County Payments would be based on wealth and income at the time of application The use of the funds would also be restricted to vocational or educational expenses, ownership or investment in a business in Montgomery County, the purchase of property in the county or funding retirement investments. |
| You wonder why MoCo has so many illegal immigrants? Just hang up the sign to central American already. Go past the border! Collect $1800 a pop in MoCo! |

Exactly. It's not a problem solver. It's a grandstander. And the council would be nuts to vote for it. They're facing a savings plan in December. The budget is ******. |
| Jawando is like the kid who runs for high school class president and promises unlimited free candy and snacks every day for lunch. |
Hahaha..just handout free money to everyone. Nothing wrong with that. Who gives a crap about inflation? Did you even graduate from high school with grades better than a D-? |
Exactly, no citizenship requirements at all from the parents. Just hop the border and have 2000 kids for $1800 a pop. It wouldn't be hard to circumvent this at all. You could buy air Jordans, iPhones, etc. and make claims they're for 'school expenses'. Progressive program almost always ends up at unmitigated disasters full of bloat and waste, because the law of unintended consequences takes over after progressive morons with these ideas never account for just how sh!tty people are and how much they look to abuse the system for free cash. |
Hahahahaha, triggered AF! Can’t wait for “Project 2025” (or whatever you libnutz are calling it) to get underway and start exploding your heads. |
Just "hop the border," have children, keep living in Montgomery County for 18 years, and then the child gets money for vocational or educational expenses, ownership or investment in a business in Montgomery County, the purchase of property in the county, or funding retirement investments! Free cash (except for the part where it's not free and also not cash)! |
^^^ and it should go without saying that every recipient will be a US citizen. |
| Why limit it to $1800? |
|
Great idea! Not! Let's create a financial incentive for financially savvy lower income families not only to move to MC but to remain in MC for decades. Latter would result in subsidizing those families for decades and would mean foregoing opportunities elsewhere in the DMV or outside the DMV.

| Where's this 16 million dollars coming from? We're increasing class size, but we have 16 million per year to just hand out? |
Why limit it to kids born after 1/1/24? Sorry current children, you're SOL! |
I know, right? Looking nice in today's society is ONLY for the wealthy. Poor people should look poor, amirite? |
