$1,800 per kid in Montgomery County

Anonymous
Bill proposed to give $1,800 for each kid born in Montgomery County. I don't see how this would be implemented without loads of people taking advantage. Not to mention that I am tired of my tax dollars being used frivolously. Want to guarantee educational opportunities? Make MC free for select programs.

There are all sorts of studies about how universal basic income is good for everyone.

It’s sponsored by Will Jawando. It’s not going to happen.

1. It is not going to happen.
2. Stop worrying your racist head about it and concentrate on Separation of church and state and why this country has a dumb cult of traitors.

Racist? Where did that come from? I'm tired of paying for ill-thought programs that have a huge potential for abuse due to limited oversight. Did we not learn from the covid loan and unemployment fiascos?
Not sure about your 2nd statement and how that applies. I am all for free education for all and there is really no way anyone can take advantage of going to a community college for free.

A lot of oversight doesn’t necessarily make programs more effective though. I am fine with X amount of fraud and waste because of lack of oversight or a broad cash stimulus if it’s more effective on the whole than a program with a lot of red tape. People have an outrage quotient they can’t get over though.

Also I feel like the Covid and unemployment loans worked really well? What fiasco? Obviously there was going to be fraud but that’s just cost.

It would be cheaper to improve the schools so kids can support themselves as adults. Absurd.

Those academic studies show that Universal Basic Income, in lieu of all other assistance programs, would be beneficial because the inefficiencies inherent in running social welfare programs would be eliminated. That is why the studies are academic - because any UBI program available is going to be in addition to, and not replace, any social welfare programs. A fairly significant point you should have mentioned.

This is dumb and you should feel bad about yourself.

Oh my goodness. White people have gotten so many handouts in the form of free land and subsidized mortgages. The wealth gap is striking. I think giving out cash is a great idea. We spend so much money, time and effort on DEI and welfare programs. Giving people what they actually need - cold hard cash - is fantastic. Some people will squander it but overall, it creates a benefit.

I accept that UBI is a good idea but not at the County level. An UBI will literally more DMV residents who need social services. The County needs to attract more than simply takers.
