Send him to the sleep over in a zip up footie PJ, nobody will see the pullup. He can change in the bathroom, bring it home in ziplock baggie as pp suggested

Tell me you don’t have an 8 year old without telling me you don’t have an 8 year old!

Huh?? My son wears Minecraft footie pjs to bed multiple times a week.

My youngest wears nothing but underwear. Kids are different.

Would he SHOW UP to a sleepover birthday party in them? Because that is what PP is proposing.

Is there anything we can do to help speed up this process? He pees right before bed and he doesn't have much to drink in the evening. Our doctor said this is within the realm of normal and that the alarms and the midnight waking does nothing but make everyone miserable. The doctor won't prescribe anything yet. I just don't want him missing out on fun stuff because of this.

Your doctor wont even prescribe anything to take only on the occasion of something like a sleepover?

I could understand Drs hesitation if the question was worded as looking for a prescription solution for every night— but they might be more willing if you made it clear you will only give it to him for something like overnight camp or sleepovers. Not every night til he goes through puberty.

I remember reading similar bedwetting posts that mentioned using a prescription for special occasions but not for everyday use.

Bed wetting alarm worked great for us. Took about 8 days. Completely fixed the problem.

If it's a good friend inviting him just let him go, I dealt with bedwetting as a kid and went to sleepovers with close friends all the time, They knew what i was wearing and why and it was never an issue.

Times have changed, it’s no longer taboo for a bigger kid to still have a night pull-up. I would let him do sleepovers, tell him there are a lot of kids in the same situation and that’s why they sell the night pull-ups for bigger kids.

Have you ever had issues with pull-ups leaking? We tried several kinds and then switched back to regular diapers for bed, they hold up much better.

He honestly wouldn't care. He has lots of siblings, and approximately a bazillion cousins (9 aunts and uncles) that we're around frequently. He's not especially shy or concerned about putting on a 'cool kid' show for anyone. He just wears what he finds comfortable.

He'd 100% go to a sleepover wearing them, if it weren't currently 10000000000 degrees outside. Heck he wore a paw patrol hoodie last week to a TopGolf party get together we went to with friends.

Have you ever tried baby powder in his pull-up? It will keep him from being uncomfortable in the humidity and getting a rash.

my pediatrician recommended stopping all diapers/pull ups once my kids were "day trained", at night. Both my kids were 3 years old, we had two annoying weeks where they wet the bed often but then they figured it out and haven't had accidents since. They are now 7 and 10.

I definitely think parents (and some pediatricians?) are creating a problem by encouraging pull ups so far into childhood.

My kids were both daytime trained before age 2. We did pullup/diaper at night just to make sure they got sleep but when they were 4 we did the pee alarm. The school had an early start and I didn’t want them to smell of pee or have to shower so early in the winter. Oddly they both now just hold it all night like don’t wake up in night. Very rare accidents. We did underwear under the diaper for the alarm so as not to change the sheets so much. Took 2-4 weeks to work.

You shouldn’t make it into some dark secret. This is just part of growing up and he doesn’t need to feel bad about it. Let him do the sleepover, he will have a good time.

Let him go to sleepover, it’ll be fine.

How is he with changing in the morning when he wakes up? Does he take it off and get dressed or do you have to remind him he needs to change in the morning?
