If you know your neighbors, or have a local friend, ask them to check on your plants and your mail/newspapers.
Put a house light on a timer so it looks like someone's home. Do not announce your plans on social media. And yes, if you're planning to fly or take transportation other than your own car, masks (KN/N95) are a good idea (still). Better safer than sick on vacation. |

Now add in specialty care for pets, and you have my situation, OP. We have had to leave urgently (visa interviews, relatives' funerals, etc) on several occasions in our lives, and it was so easy to deal with just kids, home and plants. But now we have two pets who need special attention. Finding emergency care for them sends my stress levels through the roof.
