This. OP is probably 20 mph over the limit and the other driver is 5 or 10 below so OP feels like it's half.

Incorrect. When the speed limit is 55 and I'm driving 27, that means they're going roughly 30. Ok, so not quite half, but close enough.

And yes it happens regularly. I moved from the DMV southeast last year, and I'm struggling to adapt to the local drivers.

+1 It absolutely happens. I live in the land of retirees and snowbirds. They can't drive the speed limit to save their lives. Luckily they stay off the highways because they would be run over in a millisecond. People give no F@cks about the speed limit on the highway.

They have anxiety about driving above a certain speed. My wife drives around 5 miles less than speed limit on the far right lane. I go with the flow on the left lane.
The worst part is when I'm driving with her, she wants me to drive as she does because of her anxiety.

Yes, surely the big problem with DC area drivers is going well under the speed limit and not twenty miles over. Absolutely.

Generally it's the same reason some people drive way over the speed limit. Age. Old people drive slow, young people drive fast.

Also, as others have said, impaired people drive real slow.

Believe it’s required for Subaru owners per the owners manual.

They’re self appointed traffic vigilantes

Slow drivers are annoying, fast drivers are life threatening.

For me it’s fear and fairly poor vision. But I have to drive to work just like the rest of us. I stay to the right and do my best.

Hopefully they have their hazards on driving that slow. So dangerous!

Slap a student driver sticker on your car if you regularly drive below the speed limit.

They are afraid of getting a speeding ticket.

They are driving in a school zone and the yellow lights are flashing.

Seriously, there is a school zone near me that I end up driving through at least a couple times a week while the lights are flashing. The normal speed limit is 45 but when lights are flashing it's 25--and people don't follow it at all! Drivers behind me get so angry, tail gate me, and then ultimately aggressively swerve into the other lane and cut me off because I'm actually following the law.

I don't know if it's because they didn't see the sign with the flashing lights, or they just don't care and think it doesn't apply to them?
