Years ago, APS said they only post them after they have been "verified." Peraps FCPS doesn't wait for that? |
There’s no good reason for it. The parents should know as soon as the schools know. Thankfully, in MS & HS, the teachers tell the kids their scores day-off. I think in ES, an individual parent could possibly find out sooner (at least whether the child passed) if they pushed. But they shouldn’t have to. |
Some school systems provide the immediate results that are subject to change and other systems only provide the final, official scores. APSVA does the latter. |
We ask now. And our ES refuses to provide the scores, fyi. North Arlington. |
I believe a superintendent’s message earlier this month said they would be in ParentVUE the last week of June. While that’s not ideal, it’s better than the late July release we’ve had the last few years. |
In MS (APS), the teachers seem to be telling the students soon after the test if they passed. Those who didn't pass will have an opportunity for a retake and/or sign up for summer school. Teachers couldn't tell the actual scores to the students until everyone finished retakes. Parents probably won't get official scores until later this summer. Kids in my child's class seem very interested in their SOL scores since it affects next year's placement - they line up in class to request the numbers. |
It's an improvement, but it would be really nice if they were released last week in case parents wanted to speak with teachers about how scores match up with in school performance. Sometimes a test result is just a bad day and sometimes it's not. |
Don't kid yourselves into thinking that elementary SOL scores do not matter. They absolutely matter for placement in 6th grade. I wish -- as does my son -- that we had understood that better before. |

This is the only reason I care this year about SOLs. This seems to be the one time it really matters |
Different year......same post. Every year, this exact same topic gets posted. And ever year, the post reaches about 5-6 pages. And with all that input, after all these years, I don't think anyone is any closer to why this difference exists. But, one of these years....I'm going to be the first to post it! |
Can APS add this topic to Engage? Would be nice if they took a survey of the community on when to get SOL scores. |
So it seems like from the message that went out just now that we are getting SOL scores this week. I think that is fine. I mean I don't really understand the reason for this week vs right after they take them, but this gives the school time to do all the makeups and then they come out around the same time as grades, which seems to make sense.
I like that it is coming out at the beginning of the summer so folks can get tutors. |
I just looked and I see MOY, BOY, BIBLES, and this is for a 5th grader. (forgive my spelling if I don't get these exactly right). I don't see an explanation of scores or SOLs. Help? |
