Churchhill student attacks driver on bus 6/10/24

The ONLY buses that have attendants in MCPS are transporting special needs students.

There may not have been anyone else on the bus. Some of the SN buses transport only one kid.

I know right? What are they doing in the W schools that keep these things from happening only 1/10 as much as in east county schools?

Or, could it be there aren't as many east county parents on dcum and they don't jump to this forum to post incidents?

Sure, there are many West County parents here, but they like nothing better than to slam East County schools.

Why?

Because it's very likely it's a special needs kid, and despite two people saying here that there is no difference most will disagree that this is below the belt. At least until proven otherwise.

why
Doesn’t matter to the driver or attendant who was assaulted if the student was SN. It shouldn’t have happened.

I’m sorry, are you saying that it’s okay that a bus driver was attacked to the point of needing an ambulance because the attacker was a special needs student? You don’t think that maybe this points to a systematic issue that needs addressing?

Absolutely no one is saying that. Saying that it's abhorrent to gossip about a (likely)special need minor, and an injured bus driver is awful and fighting is terrible can happen at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive. There is no need for this info to be on DCUM until it is determined it is a public safety threat, and given the likely details this seems human. Again, everyone is sad for the attacked driver.

Systemic at is more than once. What is your point? You are arguing to keep this specific awful event in an open forum? It's ghoulish.

Do you interpret this thread as an attempt to constructively identify how the school can better meet the needs of the most acute SN kids?

A girl was recently injured (minor injury) at my DC’s school when a fight between two boys broke out. The girl was accidentally injured by the fighting boy with special needs. The school administrator(s) instructed her not to tell anyone at school who had injured her (to protect the identity of the boy who injured her). I think these issues are complex. I was not fully comfortable with an injured female being instructed to protect the identity of the boy who injured her, special needs or not. I can see not wanting to ostracize him (not that this girl would have done that) but I don’t think this should have been said as an order. It doesn’t make me feel like the school will prioritize my daughter’s safety and I don’t think it sent this girl the correct message. I also suspect there is not adequate support in place for the boy, but I have no further details on that situation.

Oh eff that noise. My daughter would have NOT stayed silent, and rightly so.

+1

OP, what is your source for this information? It's been many hours since the supposed incident and we are at 2 pages with no factual information. At this point this thread just feels like troll bait.

The correct response is to send a letter instructing that teacher to resign
