Sports to try for an un-athletic girl

I love all the people recommending softball when OP specifically said that wasn't what her daughter enjoyed.

I love all the pedantic twats who need to respond

She is old enough for the regular gym, believe it or not

Sports are more fun when you have some skill. OP is letting her daughter quit before she is skilled enough to enjoy it. It doesn't matter than she tried it before.

Can you get her onto a summer swim team? If you can find a lower-key team, they are way more focused on fun, individual development, and team spirit than on the competition. She doesn't even have to swim in meets if she doesn't want to, although I've generally found that even the most reluctant participants are signing up for B meets by the end of the season, just to be part of the team. And it's only a one-month commitment.

Kids need either the fun coach or friends to get to that point. Also a parent who will work with them. All 3 is the perfect trifecta. If your kid wants to go to practice to see friends and you'll play catch/do soft toss enough that games are fun, then sure.

Same with skating or dive. Gotta at least take your kid to the pool or rink.

OP maybe try something you'll love doing alongside your kid? Have you introduced her to the types of exercise you enjoy?

Just keep her in swimming if she enjoys it. How would she feel about something like Girls on the Run?

My uncoordinated kid likes fencing. We are also going to do a learn to skate program with a test run in ice hockey in the fall. I think she’ll like the pads/crashing into things (and I think I’ll hate driving to a rink and watching her in the cold). She likes to ski and bike, so her balance is pretty good. She just doesn’t love the standing around that comes with soccer and softball practices. I’m hoping skating is more engaging.

Tennis is a good one

for my DD it came down to team dynamics. She ended up loving softball because her team really clicked and she made some great friends. It might be worth trying again, perhaps signing up with a friend.

+1
I was never athletic as a kid. But I was very active doing the things I liked - like riding my bike. I don’t seem to have missed out on whatever important lesson participating in sports will teach your daughter.

Now I lift, hike and run because I love it.
