s/o. Do you care if your child wears a seatbelt?

Watch this about bike helmets

Still recall the day 5 year old kid undid their seat belt on a major road. I pulled over and refused to go until the buckled up! We sat on the side of the road for over 25 minutes (I was ignoring their antics all over the minivan by scrolling on my phone)

Uh, yes. Of all the things parents worry about this is one that has merit. Seatbelts save lives… life 360, not so much.

In so many accidents, the people who survived were belted in, while other unbelted passengers did not. The unbelted passengers also caused injuries to other passengers as they were tossed around the car.

I think this must be a troll. On DCUM, no less, land of Nuna car seats.

This is because of the bike helmet thread and some are posting and comparing to seat belts. People unanimously think seat belts are needed. Some do not understand how parents can’t force their older teens or even young adult children to wear bike helmets for safety reasons. I’m sure that’s why they started this thread but not sure what they thought it would accomplish.

14:05 again and I didn’t answer OPs question. Of course I want my teen to wear a seat belt and I’m sure he does. But just like the bike helmet, I have no control if he does or doesn’t if I’m not with him. So right now, technically I can’t be 100% sure if he’s driving with one even though I require it.

OP might not be American….? I grew up in Asia and it’s a lot more common there to not wear seat belts. Of course most of the traffic moved a lot slower due to the congestion, and cars in general are much smaller. Very rare to be driving the way people do on 495 or even some local roads in DMV.

If this is the case OP you are in America , wear seatbelts.

I always think it's weird when I get into a cab with co-workers on a business trip and no one puts their seatbelts on. As if a cab is different than... any other time in a car.

YES - wear your damn seatbelt and enforce that your kids do as well, OP.

Some idiots think seatbelt’s aren’t needed in the back seat. I’ve had to tell friends who were in the backseat of my car that they need to put on their seatbelts if I’m driving.

+1 isn’t it illegal to not wear one?
Anonymous
Not sure why this is a question? It’s the law for one thing.

Parents don’t care about this? I’m probably considered a lax parent but I can’t imagine this being ok in any universe.

It’s a spin-off, people. Literally no one has said their lax about seatbelt use. OP is trying to make a point about teens and parental laxness about bike helmets.
