If you don't pay it, nothing will happen. MCPS used to be very strict about clearing lost materials prior to graduation. They don't care any more. You would still be able to participate in all activities if you are an underclassmen or graduate if you are a senior.

Yes they were! DS' elementary school billed us at year end for writing in four of the the Highlights booklets during K...and made a huge deal about it following him.

That's ridiculous.

Hi, it's OP. The school will not give this student any graduation tickets. He is independent, without parent support. Nobody at the school will respond to a request to waive the debt, which he doesn't have the money to pay at the moment. I'm very surprised how unhelpful the school administration has been.

Has he spoken with the parent liaison or equivalent?

Do you mean PTA? No. I can try to contact them. I don’t understand how there is no county wide written policy.

NP. Yes, contact the PTA pres. They should have a good relationship with principal and may be able to advocate for a waiver for the kid. If school won't comply, they may be able to pay it for him from a Mini Grant or Advocacy line of their budget. Glad this kid has an advocate in you, OP.

What happened to the Chromebook? Any chance of locating it? I would think the guidance counselor be able to help. They must know he is receiving assistance.

I just watched a TikTok from someone in Montgomery Co. who was trying to pay off student lunch debt for a few students who didn't have the means to do so. One was not going to be allowed to walk until the debt was paid off. But get this, they can only accept $150 per day. They cannot accept a full payment to pay off the debt because their system can't process more than $150 for one student each day.

MCPS doesn't give a sh!t about their students.

We never signed a contract. They just handed my kid one freshman year. We never used the school computers before that. I would fight them in it as in never agreed to be responsible and bought our own.
