is there really any help for perimenopausal hair?

Seriously? A woman is asking for help with identifying products she can use to restore her hair to a premenopausal state and you’re saying she is racist! Where do you even make that connection with her post? This is utter rubbish. I don’t even understand how you could arrive at that thought based upon what she said. Nonsensical.

Same! I didn't realize the texture would change when the hairs went gray. I actually like the color - it's silvery and my hair is black. I had the potential for a nice salt and pepper look. But because it's wiry and tends to break, the gray hairs ping out in a frizzy halo instead of laying flat with the rest of my hair. More of a dandelion gone to seed look

That is exactly what’s happening. I have little wiry antennas poking all out of my head. My hair normally is smooth and lays flat and I have no idea how to stop this or at least get it under control. It almost looks like static electricity, even though there is none.

PeriMenopause is definitely changing my hair.
I’ve had a lifetime of straight here, and now I have random wiry curly hairs which don’t match any of my existing hair texture and it looks really strange. I also have light hair like the OP and my hair instead of going gray is also turning dark brown. It’s very strange.

*straight hair.

Nutrafol or Nature Made Gummies for hair as cheaper and easy to eat option. Mild shampoo and repairing conditioner. If thinning than Rogain oral or foam. Less sugar and more eggs.

If there are other issues then an OBGYN can put you on low dose birth control for now and switch to HRT after menopause.

Anonymous wrote:I have tons of sympathy for you, OP. The perimenopausal hair issue came up for me during the pandemic. I didn't have access to my hairdresser at the time, so my hair went from beautiful, thick, shiny, and enviable to a really dry and just impossible to do anything with. Of course, the stress of the pandemic didn't help, but when that stress eased, my hair wasn't the same. I finally was able to get back to my hairdresser and she recommended Kevin Murphy Young Again Wash and Kevin Murphy Young Again Rinse. The shampoo has literally given me my hair texture back. Of course, it is a little different given the amount of gray that has come in, but I am pleased with the overall shine and condition of my hair when I use this shampoo and conditioner. I have tried other super-moisturizing shampoos/shampoo for grey hair etc, but my hair never really seemed to lock into the moisturizer and it felt like the product sat on top of my hair rather than in it (for lack of any other better way to describe it). But, in comparison, my hair seems to lock onto the Kevin Murphy shampoo/conditioner. These products are on the pricey side, so sometimes, when I am feeling a little guilty about the price, I use my next best favorite moisturizing shampoo on a regular basis, and then use the Kevin Murphy products a week or so before I am doing something important/extra special.

I originally bought my supply from my hairdresser, but sometimes I do buy my supply from Amazon if I can't get to her shop.

If Kevin Murphy doesn't work for you, maybe ask a trusted hairdresser for recommendations.

Thank you I will check out the Kevin Murphy products. Hopefully it will work for me.

You win the dumb comment of the day award.

DP. Didn't sound dumb to me -- I actually had the same thought.

Same, as a black woman with dark, wiry hair, it is just another day, another comment to remind myself that most white people think that the way my hair naturally grows out of my head is something awful to be dealt with and gotten rid of.

OP here. Seriously, what are you even talking about? This doesn’t make an iota of sense.

At the very least it’s insensitive to the OP. To her, her blond hair is beautiful she didn’t say anything negative about another races hair. This isn’t a post on DEI. Not sure what it says about PP that this was their takeaway.

No one gave you or your hair a thought. This is a you problem and your own insecurities.

I'm the PP with dandelion hair. I can't speak for OP, but my own issues with wiry hair stem from the fact that I have 80% straight and 20% short wiry hair, and the combo is not doing me any favors. I wouldn't mind if it ALL went gray and wiry. I would keep it short and find a new style. The in between phase is the problem.

Huh. I was thinking of donating platelets. I guess I'll keep them for myself.
