You want low-ABV drinks. I like spritzes as others have suggested, but some people make them sweeter than I like. The extra sugar in the summer only makes me more thirsty.
One of my favorite summer projects is to make a batch of strawberry-infused tequila (no added sugar). I add ice, a slice of lime and seltzer to drink. |
Was going to say similar - this is basically ranch water. We also like to infuse the tequila (with oranges, strawberries, pineapple, jalepenos - we always strain before using) to make different versions. |
Holy crap. I caught a buzz just reading the ingredients. I don't think I'm a lightweight, but I do believe this would knock me on my a$$. |
| Berry sangria--recipe was from Epicurious so I hope I have it saved somewhere now that they have a paywall. It uses rosé and is pretty in addition to being delicious. |
Np. Yes, well this is a fancy LI iced tea, another drink known to put one under the table. I love this fancy champagne twist on the drink, never heard of it (as a former LI-er!). - NP |
| Skinny Paloma is my new favorite - tequila, lime, grapefruit juice, and seltzer or sparkling water to keep it refreshing and not too alcoholic. Can sub in mezcal for a smokier flavor. |
Yes, I find in the summer adding seltzer to just about any cocktail makes it better. Margaritas and palomas are my favorite, but I add seltzer when serving to cut the sweetness. Also wine sprizters are awesome (don't know why they ever got a bad name). 1/2 glass of a crisp white wine with 1/2 a glass of seltzer and lots of ice. I also like prosecco, a glug of very sweet juice (like mango) and seltzer. |
| Sam Block just put up a Lone Range cocktail recipe that was tequila, lemon juice, a little simple syrup and topped with prosecco. You could add seltzer instead to keep it less boozy. |
| Agua de Valencia. Fresh squeezed OJ, Cava, vodka, and gin. |

I started making some various margaritas after cinco de mayo!
2 oz tequila 1 oz cointreau 0.75 oz lime juice 0.75 juice 1 0.75 juice 2 0.5 oz agave syrup pour into a shaker, add ice, shake, serve over ice The recipe I found uses pineapple and guava juice, but I've also bought passionfruit juice and grapefruit juice and done all the mix and match and it was great. You can scale up and make a big batch and shake on demand. |
I am the PP with this recipe. It is a crowd favorite! The glass should be half of the mix and then the rest champagne (Unless you are my cousin who had a whole glass without cutting it and simply said "wow that has a kick!" The more champagne the weaker it is. But it ends up almost like a fizzy lemonaid. |
Nice - like the additional berry/fruit suggestions. Last year I offered Aperol and Hugo Spritz for an outdoor party. |
| margaritas!!! |
We offer either a freshly squeezed blood orange jalapeño margarita or a strained watermelon version when we have our summer party. |
