Sweating at night!!! Help!

Do you know at what age your mom started menopause? We tend to take after out mothers. If she was on the early side, you could be in peri (symptoms can start up to 10 years before menopause).

It’s almost certainly perimenopause. But you could go to the doctor to rule out thyroid or other issues.

Btw, I had night sweats starting around the same age, now I’m 45 and close to menopause (irregular periods and confirmed with bloodwork).

If it bothers you a lot, you can ask about birth control pills to help the hormones stabilize.

Could be both thyroid AND perimenopause. That’s what it was for me. I hit menopause at 43.

I had terrible night sweats at 34 and it turned out to be a too-warm bedroom.

What blood tests do they run for this and what were your results?

I can’t speak to the cause in your case but I am peri and the nights sweats are unbearable for me. The one thing that has helped me is keeping a Dyson fan a few feet away that blows directly on me all night. It has been a complete game changer. The downside is it is loud and I find the sound irritating so now I wear ear plugs. But a lot of people like the white noise of a fan. I also now sleep in the lightest weight pajamas and only use a thin sheet.

Do you drink alcohol?

Op here. I see that there are several very useful comments, so I am responding to them, hopefully the PPs will see them.

I don’t drink any alcohol at all.

I live in a single family home, 2 story house, the second floor is noticeably warmer but I do use a fan - a cheap Lasko, couldn’t live without it.

How do I get a second opinion on the biopsy?? I am going to get a transactional ultrasound tomorrow as recommended by the gynecologist.

My mother had a hysterectomy and ovaries removed at 40 so I have no clue what her normal menopause would have been. My one grandmother though had super early menopause, the other died young.

Thank you all!!!

Separate from figuring out the cause - sleep in minimal clothing (I wear a cotton camisole and underwear). If you sleep with a partner, have your own separate thin blanket/comforter, and no top sheet (I just wash the blanket once a week) and keep the blanket untucked.

Do the night sweats only happen during certain weeks of the month for example, being really bad the week before period and non existant the week of? If so they are probably due to your cycle, if not (meaning you have them all the time) something else is going on. Some antidepressants can cause night sweats, Prozac did for me.

I'm menopausal and found out there are some triggers, which can cause night sweating: 1. Alcohol, 2. Meat. I can eat fish and small portions of chicken but I have stopped eating red meat. Just my personal experience.

Get a sleep study. Sleep apnea will do this to some people too.

Why? Typical for Perimenopause which can start in late 30s.

Bc night sweats can be a sign of some scarier things too, it's worth getting checked out
