Caltech isn't a SLAC, but it's small enough to feel like one.

It's pretty much impossible to find a reputable SLAC with good STEM and merit. Something is going to have to give.

Several schools have been mentioned that are strong in STEM and give merit. Generally they are in locations some see as less desirable.

This table is such a good example of people not understanding data.

The strength of a program is not indicated by the number of Ph.Ds they produce, but the percentage of students in the major who go on to earn Ph.Ds.

A school X that sends 95% of their biology majors on to PhD programs is a stronger school than Y that sends 40%, even if X produces only 85 grads to Y’s 600.
