| DD has a great resume, GPA 3.9, wants a SLAC and a career in STEM, possibly bio. We will probably need merit aid. Where should she be looking? |

From the list of schools that rank well in per capita production of PhD candidates in biological sciences and give merit aid...
Earlham Mount Holyoke Grinnell St. Olaf Ursinus Juniata Kalamazoo St. Mary's College of Maryland https://www.collegetransitions.com/dataverse/top-feeders-phd-programs#biological-sciences |

Grinnell and Oberlin are both good choices for bio with merit.
Reed is very good, but not much merit. Ursinus has new bioscience facilities and very generous aid. |
Yes, and also run the net price calculators (or https://myintuition.org) for the others on the list: Hampshire Haverford Pomona Swarthmore Carleton Harvey Mudd Amherst Reed etc. |
Very strongBio/ physical sciences with good merit? This is the answer. |
| Bucknell |
| Davidson is amazing but merit is unlikely. |
| Harvey Mudd, Grinnell and Swarthmore. Period. |
Someone did not read the assignment. Period. (Hint: MERIT AID) |
How much merit aid? |
| Union |
+1 |
| Bio has got to be the single worst undergrad major. |

Grinnell for sure.
Kalamazoo is lesser known/less prestige but great STEM outcomes and will be among the least expensive options after merit. Shows up on the NSF lists. Just such a bargain. St. Olaf might be a good option? They give fantastic merit, and the education is great. Robust science facilities and research opportunities. I suspect it’d be much, much harder to get in if it weren’t a dry campus — that’s a limiter from the start for many. Hendrix also shows up on the NSF list and guarantees a flagship match. Seems to attract a really fun (and surprisingly progressive given the location) group of students. Maybe Whitman if you’re willing to go that far — amazing resources, strong merit. If a girl, Mount Holyoke and Bryn Mawr seem to have great STEM outcomes and offer merit. Reed is stellar for STEM but as far as I know they still aren’t offering merit. |
| This is so helpful, thank you! Anyone else? |
