A Tiffany’s box from the person who pushed me out

Isn't being paid not to work for months gift enough?

Stop it with your unbridled fury. It happens to a LOT of people, maybe most people, at some point.

Do you what happened to people around me? They get an award at work, and then they're let go. The award is to soften the blow. You got your present after the fact. This is how it works. Someone probably told her to do this.

You're not special, OP. You can stop seething because it's bad for your blood pressure, and find another job, just like the rest of us. The only person you're hurting right now is yourself.

The present is just to smooth any rough edges, which she correctly sensed you had. There’s not a better scenario. Just take the gift and move on.

This is it. She can't be candid. I would return it to Tiffany's and use the credit towards something else, maybe for your spouse.

Ooon I like this idea!

You have probably made millions as a tech executive, in a money losing business at that, and have a solid severance package.

True hardship.

Now you know why she was three lawsuits against her. She’s psycho.

But also, yea, count your blessings. I have friends laid off after 18+ years at a tech company and they’ve all gotten two weeks severance. Your situation could be a lot worse.

I think you’re reading way too much into it. It’s probably the same vase or whatever it is that she sends to everyone who leaves.

What. Is. In. The. BOX?!
Anonymous
Infuriating.

I got something similar 20 years ago but it was a much smaller box and just a $100 silver necklace. There was a heartfelt note about how great I was. I still have that note because I am a sucker and didn't want to believe my boss was so cold hearted. Wore the necklace for a long time too.

now I want to know what's in the box. My advice would be to return it and buy something of your own choosing.

My guess is something crystal

Sounds fake. She did not fire you, you quit. And, this stuff is common at some jobs. My spouse has had it happen several times and let it play out and survived.

It was a deeply unfair assessment but the bigger picture to kick me out made sense —my stock package is too big, they’re trying to get profitable, etc etc. All unfair corporate bullshit but v in line w the ethos of the company. My boss is also an objectively bad boss—she has three retaliation lawsuits against her currently.

Anyways once I saw what she was doing I cut right to the chase, asked for a buy out, our lawyers negotiated everything, and I have the summer paid.

So alls well that ends well I guess but for the last three years she has been brutal. Now, as the family breadwinner, I am unemployed. I have a lot of emotions, but one of them is unbridled fury at this point.

Anyways. 30min ago a Tiffany’s box the size of my cat showed up at the doorstep with a note from her about how I shine and she loves me and will miss me.

SHE fired ME. I told her I didn’t want to go. I asked her if thsi was actually about budgets and she insisted it was about performance. And now I am staring at a large blue box with a note about what a great team member I was.

What does this all mean??????? Wtf!!!!

So you quit? Okay.

She bested you in corporate warfare and gave you a parting gift to acknowledge you are out of the game. Trinkets tend to put people at ease when they feel wronged, that's why car salesmen throw in free car mats after jacking up the sale price $2k.
