Not really. Take into consider travel time to practice fields. If you're in McLean Arlington practices in Crystal City. That's 30-40 minutes in the afternoon one way. If you go Great Falls/Reston that's also 30 minutes one way. Vienna doesn't practice in Vienna. That's 20-25 minutes one way.

Issue is while the clubs are close the practice fields take a long time due to traffic.

20-25 minutes, you're kidding right? Thats a shorter commute than some school commutes for kids. Spoiled much, geez!

Any point in going to a second McLean tryout if DC missed the first one? They were nursing an injury from a game the day before. Registered on kind of a whim thinking they could maybe make second team if they did well. But sounds like it's almost impossible to get anything higher than third team if coming from outside?

If your kid was placed with the lowest level team at McLean, you can expect a subpar level of commitment and coaching. You'll be better off trying out for one of the neighboring clubs, Vienna, Great Falls Reston, Herndon, etc, which are within short driving distance.

I would go, you never know.

This might be coach-dependent. We have had a great experience on the lowest level team at McLean.

You must not take your kids to practices.

I live near downtown McLean. Yesterday was my kid's tryout. From downtime McLean to Spring Hill Rec Center took an actual 25 minutes. It should be 10 minutes. Now, if my kid was in Great Falls/Reston that practice drive one way would take at least 50 minutes. Going to Arlington fields? That's GWP which is under construction for three more years. That takes 50 minutes also one way.

Perhaps you drop your kids off in a helicopter

Funny that it takes people who live in McLean longer to get to a McLean soccer practice, than people who live elsewhere. We live in Herndon and were considering McLean because it's easy to drive up the toll road to get to Spring Hill. The other fields are tougher though...

That's because you're driving against traffic. RT123, Chain Bridge Road, GWP, Old Dominion, etc are all backed up. Not easy when you're driving with rush out traffic.

Nope, reality is my kid's probably better than yours so the commute is whatever is needed to train. Everyone has different priorities, rumor is pickleball will be NCAA sport so you can always try that if the commite is too intense for you

We live in Reston. Our kid practices at Police Field and Lewinsville. It takes about 30 minutes to get to practice via 66 (skipping toll road). It's about 20 minutes using the Dulles Toll Road.

You're driving against rush hour traffic and it sounds about right. 30 minutes from Reston to PD field. Imagine driving with traffic from McLean to Reston. It'd be 50 minutes easy. It's taken me 30 minutes to get from downtown McLean to just Tysons Corner (International Drive) during rush hour.

Maybe your kid is better. Sorry you need to live your dreams through them.

You should take a look at Vienna (VYS). Look at the tryout schedule. I think you’ll find that some of the fields are similar distances as McLean fields for you.
