We tryout at multiple teams yearly for practice and when you go into a team without them knowing you that is what they do.

The goal is to make it to the big field with their top players who are already there.

My suggestion is to talk to the coaching director and tell them about your recent move and ask to join a practice to get the feel of the game.

I remember watching tryouts 3-4 years ago, when McLean was one of the top clubs. All the coaches had their noses buried in their phones, texting each other and giggling like school girls. Zero interest in the process.

Now the program sucks. This once great program was dumped by SYC’s MLSNext move, forced to merge with some rag tag outfit in Fairfax to stay in ECNL National.

I assume you’re talking about the boys side. What you’ve written does not describe the current girls program.

Um, the girls program is nothing to write home about either. But, it lets parents tell their friends their soccer star child plays travel soccer for McLean. I guess there's that.

This is not wrong, but if it’s right then it’s also true about every other big club in the DMV.

They’re trending downwards these days. SYC, Arlington and Loudoun are better options for girls.
