How hard is it to get in to Burke or Field for HS?

From Field? No. Closer to 10% last year and this year. But they do add 35 or so kids as new admits.

Way more than that leaving Burke. No idea how that compares to other years.

Some of the admit classes are really small

Why is this, do you have any idea?

More than that leaving Field as well. Some kids leave for better sports, more rigorous academics or just a change a scenery. That's not a slight on the school, it's a great place for the right kids and they definitely box above their weight class with college admissions.

Too small (socially, extra curriculars, sports). Not rigorous/challenging.

Not worth the price tag unless your kids need the extra small size. (Most of the kids who are leaving would be fine in a large public school and don’t need the hand holding that Burke provides.)

Most of the kids who stay at Burke through HS do not need any hand-holding. There are plenty of high-achieving, smart kids at Burke who are there because they like the community and don't want the disruptions and lack of transparency at a large public school. HS at Burke is rigorous and the teachers know the students well.

What hand holding? Burke gives the same main 5 accommodations as every other mainstream private school in this area for kids with updated psychoed testing.

It’s a small school so there’s lots of scaffolding for all kids- homeroom sessions on getting organized, homework plans, etc etc.

If you come from a private elementary school or middle school, it will not feel like hand holding. If you come from public, it will.

I’m glad the school works for your kid but this is has not been our experience. There are some smart and high achieving kids but I wouldn’t say it’s a majority of the class. And 1/4 of the 8th class is leaving.

Any idea where those kids are going? I'm wondering if MacArthur is the destination for Burke kids who didn't want to be at Deal or J-R.

School is too small to say without giving away identifying details but suffice it to say kids are leaving for a mix of other privates and publics in DC and MD. No single destination.

That’s exactly right.
