Got my first pair of new jeans at 47!

Jeans and their many washes are garments that are very hard on the environment, particularly in terms of water pollution.

I buy a lot of clothes second hand on Poshmark and I make a point of not buying new jeans. Plus, on those sites (or thrift stores), you can usually find designer items at affordable prices.

I don't fault you for being excited about a new pair of jeans, though, OP! It's nice to have that experience! But hopefully you'll come to the realization that there isn't that much difference, and being eco-friendly also has its importance.

Jeez just let someone enjoy something.

I hope you enjoy them! I don’t know your style, but as we are entering warming weather, my tip is to hem them to right above the ankle (sometimes I even just cut them and leave the hem a little frayed looking)- it is a warmer weather look and feel and then you can wear the jeans with sandals, flip flops, sockless tennis shoes, etc.

Congratulations! Play with the styling and have fun. Are you adjusting to a new body shape at the same time? The trends come and go but if you have a cut that works for your shape, don't feel like you need to go with what seems to being pushed on you by marketers.

Tell me in this context, what is more eco friendly then buying an average of .0212765957 pair of new jeans annually?

I'm thinking conservative Christian culture. I have some relatives who think women should always wear skirts/dresses and pants are for men.

OP said first new jeans, not first jeans. Maybe thrift store jeans her whole life? Plus, more me, who grew up working class wearing hand me downs and clothes my mom and I sewed, then poor for a long time, it was a long time (not as long as OP) before I could give myself permission to buy anything new and I still don't buy many new clothes.

There is always one.

Why steal OP's joy and happiness?

PP you replied to. You guys just love to get into a pack and attack the odd one out with a different point of view. I SAID it was nice for OP to have that experience, so you can all push off. If you don't like that the jean dye industry is killing all the rivers of Asian countries where they're made, guess what? It's still true. OP has not contributed to that problem, and may be unaware, so I'm telling her just in case she felt like going out to buy more new jeans regularly...

+1
It’s her first pair. Let’s let the woman have her first pair of jeans and not scold her when the scolded has probably had a hundred new pairs in her life before going green.

Congratulations, OP.
