That's something for the investigation to look into based on evidence that comes to light, not something for people who have no idea to speculate about. |
Correction: it's poorly expressed on the website (see above about bad journalism), but the email link at the bottom and the "news release" at the top suggest that the author of the test is the MCPD PIO (Public Information Office, I presume). |
"text" , not "test" |
Good work by the FBI Baltimore Field Office and MCPD |
There are two different articles.
OP linked to MCPD. There is also a very similar rewrite at https://mocoshow.com/2024/04/18/rockville-tee...omery-county-school/ |
A 129-page manifesto. We've got an overachiever over here! |
WaPo with more, including the defense that the manifesto/memoir was fiction.

“As I walk through the hallways, I cherry pick the classrooms that are the easiest targets,” Ye had written, according to the filings, adding one page later: “I have also considered shooting up my former elementary school because little kids make easier targets.” Yikes. |
Year-long secret investigation. Absolutely massive security risk. We got lucky. |
This story is fishy.
There was no threat. There was no evidence the student was going to carry out any act. The student had written something that they clearly said was a work of fiction and someone tipped off police to it. I don't think this will hold up and meanwhile there's a lot of damage to a student who was already trying to get help. https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/...chool-threat-arrest/ |
Per WaPo, suspect was at some point a Wootton student, but had been extensively hospitalized for psychiatric cast over past 2 years.
|
Oof. This sounds like a young person in crisis, who had recently been hospitalized for suicidal and violent ideation, but who did not have a weapon. However, I think everyone did the right thing here. Someone reported him, maybe even a mental health professional or his own family. Not keep illegal adult from purchasing one, arrest seems like the only choice. |
^^^ I lost part of my sentence up there. I meant to say that red flag laws can only force someone to give up their gun, not keep them from acquiring one. |
Andrea is also a common man’s name in some countries (e.g. Andrea Boccelli). It’s entirely possible he preferred to be called Alex to avoid teasing or misgendering by Americans who assume it’s a girl’s name. Better to hold out for facts. |
