A FSIQ of 119 isn't anything to write home about. It's definitely not gifted. And since the psych calculated a GAI, something was dragging down the FSIQ. |
A 130 WISC is percentile-wise equivalent to a 132 CogAT. WISC uses a 15 SD and CogAT/NNAT both use 16. For the WISC, they definitely look at the index scores and the subscores within an index. A lower GAI or FSIQ with higher scores in VCI or FRI might be worth including. |

We signed up with GMU (through a form) the night that AAP decisions were released. Got a call from them 2-3 days later scheduling the test. My child already took the test and we are expecting results early next week -- more than enough time before the appeal deadline. I think the key is to jump on the GMU scheduling right away when decisions are released. |
OP Here for the one who asked about why they put the GAI on the first my kid has some problem with his memory .
He got a very low score in working memory index. Anyway I think it’s not a good idea to include my kid WISC scores in appeal they really disappointed me😅 |
Maybe think about how you are phrasing this. Your kids test scores represent your kid and you are saying you are disappointed? It sounds like the test pointed to an issue that you could probably address and help improv your child's academic ability. If the test is pointing to a low score for working memory then you have an issue that you might be able to address. Did they say if that indicates executive functioning issues or that it is a sign of ADHD? Is there the possibility of a learning disability? Are you following up with the test results? Because there are ways to help kids who have issues with working memory or learning disabilities or ADHD. Maybe focus on what the results are telling you could be an issue for your child academically and potentially in other areas of their life and help them shore up that area. |
Were all of the Working memory subscores low, or was Digit Span much lower than the other subscores? Low working memory in general can be a red flag for ADHD, but the very low Digit Span + high Picture span is definitely a red flag for ADHD. My ADHD kid got a 16th percentile in Digit Span and a 98th in Picture span, just as an example. |
My kid 91 for picture span 37 for digit span he doesn’t has any symptoms for ADHD he is so quite can focus easily and sometimes lazy!😅 Do you think he might has a ADHD |
Does he speak another language at home? Is English not your first language? List his subtest scores in Block Design Matrices Coding Figure Weights Visual Puzzles Picture Span = 14 These make up the nonverbal index. |
,yes the english his minor language we speak another language at home . Block design 50 Visual puzzle 95 Matrix 99.7 Coding 37 Figure weights 98 Pictures concept 98 What is that mean ?! |
And his non verbal and quantitative in cogat 99 But his verbal 92 |
Difficulty with processing speed. I would include the WISC along with all sub scores. The scores from above show me your child’s very bright just takes a little longer to respond. Probably why FISQ score was little lower than expected too. |
Do you think they will take in their consideration the subtest score or they will take a final judgement on the total resault and FSIQ |
Put what you want them to know on the form ie the highest score , and submit the entire file. |
What was his fluid reasoning index? If it was high, I'd include the WISC and emphasize that English is not his first language and not the primary language spoken at home. |
