Boy Travel Programs

1) What is wrong with Alexandria once DS hits high school (to the poster who posted the issue)?

2) Where are SYC practices typically held for this age group (U10-U13)?

3) No one has posted about Arlington or McLean. Have they fallen off? I searched these forums before posting, and in the past, these two clubs are mentioned a lot.

4) Has anyone tried the commute to Bethesda for BSC from Northern Virginia? I have also heard good things about BSC, but the drive looks pretty bad given current traffic issues on 495.

There's nothing wrong with Alexandria for high school players. (One thing you'll learn on this forum is there is an endless amount of snarking about other clubs, much of it from people with an axe to grind.) Alexandria is a strong club at all ages, including high school.

Arlington is also a strong club; their older boys teams are in ECNL rather than MLS Next. McLean has suffered in recent years - I'm not personally up on all the details but know quite a few refugees from McLean who left to play for top teams at other clubs due to some issues at McLean.

The commute from NoVA to Bethesda would be soul-sucking and waste A LOT of time -- especially now that there is construction on 495 (and will be for years).

I have no idea what you mean here. If they want to play in high school, they should play for the best club team they can, which will help their skills.

I think you're being obtuse and know exactly what I mean. At our public with a top soccer team that regularly goes to and wins State, the kids have played for lots of different teams and different levels - many at clubs that you never hear about on DCUM.

If you want drama and a full on shit show every time tryouts come around come over to SYC. The Maldonado brothers have it down pat on how to destroy teams and completely disregard anything that benefits the players . Girls teams with six coach turnovers in less than two years (u13) boys top teams with ex coaches intent on revenge (u13) and complete disregard for any team that is not MLSN or MLS2. Next year age groups are having up to six teams, rec director of one of the age groups says that SYC is considering getting rid of rec. Why not when you can con parents into forking over 2k or more a year for their kid to be on travel just to say their kid is in travel, but it’s the black team. But none of it matters bc we all put up with, all clubs have their drama. Pick the one that is convenient to you and your kid enjoys being on the team and gets good playing time.

Give it take about 160 national clubs participate in MLSN and in Virginia only two clubs SYC being one of them.

Leave it to SYc to get rid of a top MLS coach that parents signed on to a team for and bring back a coach that has been forced out for verbal abuse and literally putting kids in therapy over it with 11 and 12 year olds.

Why did SYC replace the coach? 2011 has had so many coaches in a short period of time.

What’s wrong with BAC?

Limited field space.
Some groups with two teams, so the "B" team has quite a few "rec level" players who are just there to fill a roster and make the club money. Or the B team exists to help the A team roster and development.

The first one was out bc his coaching “style” was abusive (even though looks like SYc has allowed him to come back just not to 2011), the next one left them high and dry in the middle of a tournament and is also leaving SYc completely this year and the last one was strong armed out of SYc by the Maldonado brothers.

U10? Find your local club and start there. u13, if you can get on a regional league team it’s worth doing.

I thought SYC was generally happy place, am I wrong? Relatives are moving there and I suggested they look there.

SYC never had a top coach for the 2011 MLSN group.

And this is how rumors starts... from bitter @$$ parents who's kid gets dropped to the second or even third team.

SYC is ran by a bunch of coaches who left LMVN. There is no organizational leadership and the M' brothers covers everything up.

You don’t need to have kid in a certain age group to recognize a shit show when you see one. The M brothers run the club like it’s a popularity contest. You are in with them or you are out. They walk around with puffed chests about how SYC is a pipeline to dc United academy and have barely gotten a handful of kids in vs other clubs in the area. Parents can’t say shit bc of how it might fall back on their kid. And you are either “bitter” bc your kid is not on the top team, or “too much” bc your kids is on the top team. Every club has drama but SYC takes it to a whole ‘nother level with a brand new shitstorm every single year.

Its a stand up comedy show when those two talk. The rattle on and on about how great the club is and the number of kids they have put in college because of all the connection they have.
