Boy Travel Programs

Anonymous
Looking at boy travel programs in NoVa. I searched a lot of posts but haven’t figured out which are the top soccer clubs for boys in VA. Share your thoughts below for boy travel programs (pre-ECNL/MLSN). We’ve heard good things about Alex and Arl, but trying to understand the landscape and which teams are consistently on top.

Thanks.

Which age group are you looking at?

In this area, Arlington for ECNL and SYC for MLSN. Better coaching at Arlington, better teams at SYC. And Alexandria is a lot more organized than SYC.

Also curious about experiences with BAC. We have been happy with rec and are curious about travel program.

BAC seems to be a good program, but no real pathway to college or pro academy exposure.

Syc and Alexandria for best talent overall

No to Alexandria once you get to HS age. SYC definitely.

We have a kid in the travel program and are happy with it for exactly that reason.

Good coaching, but the too intense families go elsewhere.

Look at the number of teams syc is expecting next year based on their social media. So many boys teams.

A few follow ups:

1) What is wrong with Alexandria once DS hits high school (to the poster who posted the issue)?

2) Where are SYC practices typically held for this age group (U10-U13)?

3) No one has posted about Arlington or McLean. Have they fallen off? I searched these forums before posting, and in the past, these two clubs are mentioned a lot.

4) Has anyone tried the commute to Bethesda for BSC from Northern Virginia? I have also heard good things about BSC, but the drive looks pretty bad given current traffic issues on 495.

How about the best travel programs for boys who just want to play for their high school team and aren't gunning for the (rare) soccer scholarship or pro bid? I.e., the vast majority of boys.

I have no idea what you mean here. If they want to play in high school, they should play for the best club team they can, which will help their skills.
